SMU, Legends Sales & Marketing Sign Multi-Year Agreement

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU announced today that it has selected Legends Sales & Marketing (LSM), to handle the University's ticket and premium sales operations for its football and basketball programs. LSM will be responsible for selling season, partial and group tickets at Gerald J. Ford Stadium and Moody Coliseum.

"We are excited to partner with LSM, a company founded by the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees," said SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini. "SMU provides very affordable, family-oriented, nationally-competitive college athletics events right here in the center of Dallas and working with a company like LSM will only help us as we promote our product and grow our presence in the Metroplex."

"This is a wonderful new relationship for us in a marketplace that we have already had significant success in," said Chad Estis, President, Legends Sales & Marketing. "We are excited to insert our proven sales and marketing approach at SMU and think that with the combination of the school's upcoming move to the BIG EAST and its facility upgrades there is a tremendous opportunity for sales growth and a lot Mustang fans have to look forward to."

SMU, who is currently a member of Conference USA, will become a member of the BIG EAST Conference in 2013. The Mustang football team, whose 2012 home schedule includes games against Texas A&M and TCU, has competed in three consecutive bowl games. The Mustangs' basketball arena, Moody Coliseum, is currently undergoing a $40-plus million renovation which includes the addition of luxury suites, loge boxes and retractable courtside seating.

Chris Terwoord, General Manager of Sales, will lead the LSM team at SMU. Terwoord comes to the project from the New Jersey Devils, where he previously worked as the Director of Ticket Sales and Service. Prior to that, he also worked for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Blackhawks.

Legends Sales & Marketing, who will be adding up to six new sales positions for the project, has proven experience in selling ticket inventory for sports venues, and currently manages ticket sales for the San Francisco 49ers new stadium, the Rose Bowl, the New York Red Bulls' Red Bull Arena and Circuit of The Americas (Formula 1 Grand Prix) in Austin, Texas, along with a number of other world-class venues.

I hope these guys start marketing to the students first and add about five thousand more students to all home games.

The irritating BIG EAST capitalization already has me tired of this firm. Great.

Of course, there's also adding "up to" six sales people (So it could be zero?)

Also, so glad Orsini keeps pimping the tired "family-oriented" [deleted]. That's worked so well in the past. I'd hate to get some real fans in the stadium that could actually create an intimidating environment for our opponents.

They could get freaking teddy bears in the stadium and I would be happy. I just want butts in the seats, I don't care who they are or where they come from.

Not really. RGIII said that the most intimidating environment he played in was @ UConn.

"The thing that people think is when you go to these big stadiums and they have 80,000 people or 100,000 people, that these are the toughest stadiums to play at, but really, those aren't," Griffin said. "When you have that many people, most of the time, the fans are pretty far away from the field. The toughest places to play are the ones that are jam-packed, are really tight to the field and sit about 45,000 people."

Here comes the best part.

"When we played at UConn my freshman year, that was the loudest place I've ever been as a football player," Griffin continued. "The stands are right next to the field, it was packed, and everyone was yelling. That was probably the coolest place for me to play at aside from Texas, Texas A&M and Nebraska."
UConn's stadium seats 40,000 and the game in question had a reported attendance of 38,870

Okay, we'll take the word of a FR QB. BTW, was it intimidating or cool? :wink: It is a fair point on stadiums where fans are close to the field, but are the stands at Ford significantly closer than average?

Regardless, SMU needs to build consistent attendance before being concerned about the quailty of fans that do show up.

He gave that quote after winning the Heisman last year.

The stands at Ford are closer than the stands at Tech, A&M, and UConn
