Cut the charade and drop to Division III

There can never be any peace at our house, can there?
APR report?
Overspending?
Larry Browni cutting the 4 kids in a poor manner?
Larry Brown adding two kids with bad backgrounds?
Orsini going after other jobs and not being discreet about it?
Botching the Jones to ASU thing (where he probably should have been fired)
Botching the hoops search.
At this point, I don't know how to believe and whether or not the alma mater is committed to doing anything in the right way.
What I do believe is that there is no unification on this campus in terms of people wanting the same thing out of athletics. And it always seems like personal agendas are always in the middle of it.
If this is a case where academia eventually wins the war, then the university should go for the gold, drop to non-scholarship Division III and let's move on.
I could live with it because then at least we'd know where the university stood and had a plan to get there.

I'm just venting because...hey, that's what message boards are for.
I feel better.
Just another storm we have to wade through.
What else is new?

A lot of wisdom in what you say. This is probably going to cause a schism between some of the big money contributors and the university.

As a current student I am really nervous.
One of the major reasons I went to smu is the great academics coupled with rising athletics. If focus goes away from the athletic program I will be highly disappointed.

SMU athletics will be fine....SMU was so bad at football back when I started, it won't be that bad again for awhile. With hiring LB and JJ staying, this is just a bump in the road...
SMU will be fine, although I did like Steve-O....too bad we lost him

I'm afraid that's where we are today, MM. I'm not saying it's a good thing, it's just how it goes.
Hell, it's dangerous to be in a darn collegiate band nowadays.

Obviously, you have a case of High Anxiety (1977). You should check in to the Psycho-Neurotic Institute for the Very, Very Nervous. Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke will cure you.

Anyone think there is even the smallest chance of this possibly happening?

yes - i know it for a fact. and i will add, Brown physically signed his contract AFTER this news - which tells you something since his money package is 100% booster supplied.

What a dumb post Mitch. Really? D-III? No wonder there are not that many responses. Geez.

I must disagree with the idea. If we dropped to D III, then we would lose rivalries like the rowing and equestrian rivalries with TU.
And if we considered something like this, lets do it 'All Out" and drop to club sports level.
We finally get a break after decades of futility and our response it to cower in fear of competition and run to a lesser level. Maybe inn Pye's day but not now.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not going to sit at Ford if we are in Division III football. Before I would do that I may follow Two Trick Pony to TCU for saturday afternoon football. In fact if SMU drops to Division III I am gone and will never look back.
