Conference realignment end game beginning.
We better find a way into one of the final conferences soon.
@gswaim Twitter: Just now: I'm told that #ND will jump in #Big12 very soon with Olympic sports, and then football joins after TV contract expires. #BlowsMyMind

It would be nice to have an AD at this time. I am sure Turner has had a list prepared for some time.

It wouldn't make a difference because we aren't a contender for PAC/Big 12/Big 10 or SEC

I don't think it is zero chance thanks to being in Dallas as long as all 4 go to 16+ teams. You start running out of quality teams and markets. It has to be non-zero.

This thread sounds like Bleacher Report BS to me and should never have been repeated in polite society!
From CBS Sports
Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey said the Fighting Irish's objective is to remain in the Big East, but admitted the school has "contingency plans" if it needs to join another conference.
"I know right now we're focused 100 percent on [rebuilding the Big East] but there's no question contingency plans [about joining another conference] on those pay grades higher than me have been discussed and will be discussed," Brey told CBSSports.com at Monday's Big East spring meetings.
Notre Dame has 'contingency plans' if it leaves Big East

Does ND really want to be tied into playing KSU, Iowa State, Kansas, Okla State, etc every year? I still doubt it, but I suppose it's a lot more plausible now than it was a few days ago. I just feel like if they're going to tie themselves to a conference schedule they're going to do so with traditional rivals like Michigan, MSU, Purdue, etc. But then again, tradition has gone completely out the window these days, so who knows
Hats off to Chuck Neinas. He's done wonders for the B12 since taking over. I thought (and still think it's possible) that the conference was dead in the water and Texas, OU, etc would eventually bolt for the Pac-16.
Yes, we need to step up and be proactive here. There's going to be 4 conferences with 16 teams calling all of the shots in the not-so-distant future. We need to get into one in the next few years- we have to keep winning on the field and put butts in the seats at Ford. We're in a very attractive location, with good academics and a brand that isn't unheard of. Win and sell tickets. Rinse, lather, repeat. Whoever our new AD is needs to be completely committed to marketing the hell out of SMU to the Metroplex.

What 2 or 4 teams will Pac12 get if it goes to 16 x 4?
The old theory was that the 4 supers would be Pac / Big10 / SEC / ACC
no more.
Looking like Pac12 / Big10+2 / Big12 / SEC with ACC picking up the pieces with Big East leftovers.
Since SEC has 14, eventually Big10+2 and Big12 will go to 14 or even 16.
So...who does Pac12 grab?

So...who does Pac12 grab?
Fresno State? Colorado State? BYU? New Mexico?

Texas? OU?

Texas Tech? OSU?

Though they are often mentioned, BYU and Boise State can be eliminated as Pac-12 candidates. These schools are considered academic inferiors by the Pac-12 for a number of reasons.
SMU and Houston can be called legitimate candidates for Pac-12 expansion.

Houston is not academically inferior???

BYU would be out because of the Mormon/political thing, not because of academics. SMU might be an unattractive candidate to current Pac-12 members for similar reasons.
If Boise is blackballed from the Pac-12 for academic reasons (which you're right, they will be, plus they are in a small market and don't bring a lot of TV eyeballs) then Houston will be as well. Stanford, Berekely, and UCLA would scoff at the thought of a commuter school like UH being in the Pac-12.
If the four superconferences go to 16, Pac-12 is in a tough spot, and might be the lone holdout and stay at 12. There's just not much out there for them if they can't coax Texas and OU to jump ship. Hawaii, Nevada, UNLV, SDSU, Fresno, etc don't pass the academic muster or bring in any new big markets that the Pac-12 needs. I just don't think we bring enough of the Texas market share to the Pac-12 to make it worth their while to split the pie with us, even if you pair us with Houston. None of Bevo's b1tches (TCU, Tech, Baylor) are going to jump ship either, I don't think. Our best bet is to get a spot in the Big 12 if it expands to 16, or the SEC. We've got to win games and sell tickets before that's even a remote possibility, though. The SEC possibility has always been intriguing to me- we could help expand their Texas footprint while bringing a quality academic school into the mix. Dallas is such a huge market for college football and recruiting that it could be advantageous for them to have a presence here someday.
Cross your fingers, buy tickets, and cheer on the Ponies

PAC and TV would like Central Time Zone. More programming options for TV and exposure for PAC

The SECOND Notre Dame wants into a conference they will pick up the phone call the Big 10.
The Big Ten offers $10 Million a year more than the Big 12, has better academics, makes sense geographically, and much more. ANY interest in ND going to the Big 12 is ENTIRELY on the Big 12's part.
If ANYBODY here wants to start laying bets on ND going to the Big 12, you let me know, I can use the extra cash.

It always amazes me what crazy things people will post in here. Houston to the PAC-12? Really?
