As a Mustang supporter, it is a priority for me to communicate howimportant you are to the success we are enjoying on the Hilltop. As I am currently attendingBIG EAST Conference meetings, I believed an email was the quickest and most efficient way to reachyou as we begin this transition period for SMU and our proud athletic program.
As you are most likely aware, the University has made a change inathletics leadership, effective last Thursday. Our commitment to achieving at the highestlevel of competition, providing top quality service and support for our student-athletes and ourconstituents, and representing SMU with pride remain the cornerstones of why we are poised to moveinto a new era of greatness.
With change comes uncertainty and it’s only natural to havequestions and concerns. Let me be clear - we have come too far and invested too much to goback. We remain committed to winning at the highest level, and I am sincerely convinced thatUniversity leadership stands strong with that commitment. I urge you to continue yourinvolvement with the positive momentum we have, and to join us in taking it up a notch as we movecloser to the BIG EAST. We have much to accomplish to be prepared for the next academicyear.
My role is to lead our department during this transition and do whatever it takes for ourstudent-athletes, coaches and staff to be successful. It is important that we maintain strongrelationships with our SMU campus colleagues and with external constituents like you. We willbe unified as a department and as a member of the University community.
No doubt there will be challenges over the next few months. However,I am confident that working together, we will emerge from this time with a stronger department and astronger brand. I encourage you to reach out to me or other members of our external affairsunit if you have questions.
Here’s to a summer of Mustang growth!
Yours sincerely,
Tim Leonard
InterimDirector of Athletics
