Transfer offensive tackle Stavion Lowe took an unusual route to get to SMU. One of the most heavily recruited players in the country as a high school senior, Lowe went to three schools before getting to the Hilltop. Lowe visited with PonyFans.com to discuss how he ended up a Mustang, how a former high school teammate factored in to his selection of SMU and his expectations for the 2012 season.
Thanks for the good interview...this is a stud that we are just plain lucky to get to cover that important left side of the line. Wow...I look forward to watching Stavion dominate the CUSA this year. And thanks to Longoria for reaching out. BTW---He reminds me of a young Coach Klemm.

Agreed! The OL has the potential to be very good but need chemistry to develop quickly (not worried about McJunkin, Gottschalk, Collins) and this guy lives up to hype we only need be concerned with only one other position - possibly Lasecki who's supposed to be very good/strong (Weeks also seemed to impress in Spring). Would be awesome if we could redshirt Myers.
Great job! Thank you. This was a real scoop, none of the other sites have gotten access to him. Did you get any feel for why he laid out last year? He wouldn't have lost another year of eligibility would he? He seems like a great person, did you get a sense of why LSU wasn't his place? Others have written they wanted him in "Jock" major that he didn't want, etc. Is he a good student?
He sat out last year because he was at a community college without a football team - was there to finish his associate's degree so he could return to FBS school. I would be surprised if academics were a major concern, since his final three choices were SMU, Purdue and Rice.

You're not surprised, are you? The Stavion Lowe story, the Gilbert interview, the story about Henderson returning, medical updates on Jared Williams and Ben Gottshalk and Taylor Reich, the interviews with the NFL guys, etc.
You also were the only one to pickup on the fact he went to a second JC--most of us were under the impression he stayed two years at Tyler. Thanks for clearing this up.
