Good article on ESPN's website: Is it the coach or the program.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... gest-coach

Matty Bell of course has the highest winning percentage - shocker.

The much maligned R.C. Slocum at A&M has their highest winning percentage.

Jackie Sherril is Mississippi State's greatest coach - lol.

Also found this interesting - there may be more, but three programs jumped out at me where if you take out the record of their best coach, their winning percentage actually goes up:

School W L T Pct Best Coach W L T W L T Pct (w/o Best Coach)
NC State 550 535 55 .507 Earl Edwards 77 88 8 473 447 47 .513
Miami (FL) 574 326 19 .635 Andy Gustafson 93 65 3 481 261 16 .645
Navy 656 531 57 .550 George Welsh 55 46 1 601 485 56 .551

One would think we could blame the losing record (overall) on the program.
