So I had the unique pleasure of dealing with a guy in the ticket office today. I recently graduated and moved to Florida. I thought it would be fun to try to come back to Dallas and go to the Boulevard. I was inquiring about tickets for the game and I was told that for that single game it would be $85. I thought that it was a little steep. When I asked if there was a discount for alumni because I knew SMU had been struggling with getting people in the stands I was told that this year SMU is doing just fine with alumni support and that if I cannot afford an $85 dollar ticket to a game I should just try again next year. I thought that the school and the ticket department would try to help out one of their own. I am absolutely disgusted with the way the situation was handled. The ticket representative was very rude and made me feel that because I cannot afford the tickets because I am a recent graduate, I should essentially not bother supporting the Ponies. Is this how most interactions go with our ticket office?
At this point, I want to tell the whole athletic department to go screw themselves.

Does anyone have any suggestions to finding tickets or where to take my complaints?

The A&M game is going to be sold out so the high price point makes perfect sense. If you want more bang for your buck, season tickets are available for only about $15 more. Why not buy a season ticket and then sell/give away the tickets you cannot use?

Buy season Tickets for a few dollars more or watch on TV-quite frankly I'm just fine with the hordes of fair weathered SMU fans getting left out. Get on board or get left behind. Further I hope all the TCU and A&M tickets are snapped up by season ticket holders before a single ticket is sold to the public. That would be great. I'm sure quality Season Tickets still remain

I am slightly more than a fair weather fan. In my four years at SMU, I only missed the games that were over Thanksgiving Break due to family obligations in New York. I was planning on buying season tickets before I found out that I would be moving to Florida. I am still even planning on going to the UCF game because I feel as if I should support SMU when they are playing close. This whole entire dealing is disappointing. I am living right now on a tight budget and I really do not want to be spending that much on tickets that I will not be using. I was even planning on coming out for a few more away games, but like I said, I do not want to have to deal with a ticketing department who is going to be nasty to me.

I was even considering getting a three game plan and coming back out, but I do not want to help the guy who I was dealing with before.

I'm the first to jump on this athletic department when they mess up, the opportunities are plenty, but I don't see any fault with SMU in this instance. The demand for the A&M game will be double or triple any other game in Ford Stadium history, so I would be disappointed if they did give a discount to a non season ticket holder.

If you really want a discount, do as others have suggested and by a season ticket(s) package and then turn around and sell the TCU ticket. You will make at least half your money back and probably more.

By not wanting to "help" the guy who answered the phone you are hurting the program. It's not like the guy is making a commission off you. If you really are a fan you would understand the only shred of hope we have of making the final conference shuffle is by increasing support, and that means season ticket holders. Even if you only attend one game a year, you count as a season ticket holder.

On a slightly related note, I will be attending at least 10 football games this year. I won't miss CUSA, but the regional aspect of the conference sure is great for fans.

It's a shame the guy left you feeling as if you're not important, but, honestly, if you want to go to either a&m or tcu games, tickets will cost you. If you're thinking about buying a mini package remember for $8.00 more you could get season tkts. I hope you don't let someone's rudeness keep you from supporting your Mustangs.

I might go buy the season tickets this week. If someone could pm me the name of a reasonable sales rep I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I would be interested in donating the tickets I will not be using if someone is planning on doing the ticket drives again this season.

He definitely should have been more polite. I think they've got a bunch of aggressive guys who are fired up about selling tickets and they're selling pretty well. I do know Texas and A&M fans who really pat through the nose so we've still got it pretty.

Did you think your were in Mexico or China trying to bargain with the sales people? The sales people can't cut you deals. Deal with it.

If the conversation went the way it is described then I believe that the rep should be fired. Immediately. We cannot have eejits in the ticket office putting down alumni, it is their place to politely say that there is nothing they can do and to encourage the prospective buyer to look into other options such as season tickets or mini plans.

Agree, the sales representative is a refection on SMU, and how do they treat non alumni who want tickets? How hard it is to be civil to a customer? Here, let me give an example. "Sorry to inform you that single seats are sold out, perhaps a 3 game plan might be of interest to you?" See, that wasn't very hard. Offers a polite alternative and a most likely sale.
