Bad injury

I feel bad for JR. He had a really good camp so far. Corner isn't as deep as I was hoping it would be now.

It will be interesting to see who will be returning kicks now as well...

EJ tweeted that it was a torn ACL.

I figured as much. As someone who has torn both ACLs, I can tell you it sucks a lot.

Hope JR can come back stronger next year. Good luck!

Big blow.

Who's next in the depth chart. Middleton blew it.

Chris Parks. Then not much.

Chris parks had been the number 3 CB. Keith Robinson running 4, Montes 5.

Montes is going to be a really good player. Corner is really, really hard for a true frosh to play, though.

I thought we had good depth before the injury, because Montes is going to be a good number 4 by the end of the season.

IMHO this significantly hampers our ability to play a real nickel formation, so I might have to retract what I had been saying about us playing better against a hurry up offense.

That said, Parks looks good this season, head and shoulders over what he has looked like at corner in the past. So, I don't think this is devastating from a starting perspective (although it certainly hurts), but I do think it hurts our flexibility.

Two immediate thoughts: Gray had been moved to safety, I wonder if he will move back? Another option would be LaGasse, who is listed at DB but practiced at WR so far, moving to CB to provide a little more depth.

Horace Richardson has been working with the 3rd team as well. If we have a good scheme against the hurry up we can still do pretty good. If the coaches want our DB's 7 to 10 yards off the ball it will not matter who is in there. I think with over 2 weeks to prepare for Baylor that Parks will do fine.

I think you might also see Cody Worthen and Derick Longoria as possible nickle package guys. I think that conversation and thought has been kicked around ... may be Cody at first given his exp in the "D", if this even happens. I think Parks will be OK, and there are others to be considered. Of the depth we have on our "D", CB was the only spot I felt we might be thin at, even more than saftey. But, adversity creates opportunity, an opportunity can give birth to your next star ... someone will step forward and step up

Didn't we have a commitment from a JUCO DB back in January?

Great points, PSCA. I completely forgot about Cody Worthen (undersized, but athletic) and Longoria ..

Daniel Roundtree - safety. Highlight reel looked good and he has some size at a listed 6'2" but hasn't beaten out Jay Scott from what I've read.

We already knew Parks is a smart guy who can run and has a great frame. Now, the pictures on the gallery showed us how much work he has put in with the strength staff. This is why we have backups. Time for Parks to come through -- huge.

Good luck, JR. Feel better in a hurry.

Let's not overlook Richardson's role on special teams.

Who takes over in the return game?

Damn. Bad for him and for our depth. Most think Parks can take up the slack as the starter but nickel packages and depth will suffer. Heal up JR, hope you handle this well. You're going to be a bigger, faster, smarter athlete after an extra year here
