UNIVERSITY PARK - Coming out of high school, Taylor Reed did not even know that SMU was located in Dallas. Worse, the Mustangs were coming off a 1-11 season.
"No way I’m going there," he recalled telling his coach at Beaumont West Brook.
Ja’Gared Davis was skeptical of SMU, too, when mulling offers his senior year at Crockett High. Then he heard June Jones’ recruiting pitch.
"He said, ‘With the players we’re bringing in like Taylor Reed and Darius Johnson, we can turn this program around,’" Davis said. "I bought into what he was saying. I wanted to come here and make history."
