No Love From the DMN

Not surprising is it? They pick us to end up 6-6. At least the Dave Campbell Texas Football site puts us at 8-4 with 6-6 being the worst case. I think they are all underestimating SMU's talent with a "quality" QB. We shall see.

I get no love from that rag as a Mustang or as a Republican.

From the outside, we have a tough schedule, new o-line, graduated 2 NFL players on defense, and a new QB. My expectation before watching practice was that we would probably be around 6-6, possibly even a 4 or 5 win season.
It could still go that way with injuries and if the o-line is a disaster. I think 6-6 if the o-line is really bad. if the oline is halfway decent, we are 8-4 or better.

I think 6-6 is the worst case scenario, which is what the DMN always thinks about us. They're high school level reporters in general. I think we win at least 2 of these games (baylor, toads, tulsa or southern miss). 3 of those 4 are at home. 9-3 or 8-4 are more likely.

Don't need love, let us just prove them wrong on the field. Me thinks that is where it counts the most. Would you be happy if they picked us 10-2. Wow, what love.

So where do you draw the success/failure line? Realizing that we are still in CUSA and we are jumping up considerably in conference quality next year in the Big East. Is anything less than a CUSA championship deemed a success?

I think they've switched their allegiance to Michigan.

I don't get it.
I just don't see 6-6.

6-6 is very realistic expectation if we go 1-3 in those non-conference games. We go 6-2 in CUSA play and that means we beat all the lower echelon teams and split with UCF. USM, Houston & Tulsa. Those who assume 8-4 are not respecting our opponents. Not saying it can't happen, but let's face it...Baylor game sets the tone for this season.

Personally, I would rather be ranked low and win and prove them wrong then vice-versa. I hope our early opponents feel like the DMN and get a huge surprise when we beat 'em!!!
KICK 'EM MUSTANGS!!!!!!!!!!

Without Gilbert we are praying for 6-6. He is transferring here in disgrace and hasn't played a down. Skepticism is understandable. Based on practice reports we will quickly price them wrong.

I guess the DMN writers haven't been to practice, or have no ability to understand football.
