I counted three

Referring to obviously missed facemasking calls that the refs blew.

I will admit I have still been afraid to watch the replay, though.

Officiating sucked, but that isn't close to why we lost. But still, when you're overmatched like we were last night, you at least like to see a fairly officiated game.

It was sad and some of the cheap shots by Baylor was sad too.

The missed facemasks are unacceptable, and I hope SMU has a way to get those reviewed. Kids can get really, really hurt. Baylor was tackling our receivers by the helmet all night and some were very dangerous. A 15 yard penalty at minimum. If it were same player doing it over and over again, he has to be taken out of the game.

Of course, we still lose but those missed calls can't happen.

Also, somebody get Jeremy Johnson some steak and eggs. Dude is good, but needs to put on some weight. It looked like BU's guys could just blow on him and he'd fall over. Poor guy.

several facemasks, blocks in the back and a few late hits & roughing the passer that we saw baylor commit that weren't called.

I only count one missed facemasking call, the rest were helmet grabs and not penalties.

Isn't it illegal to grab any helmet opening?

Yes, but I didn't see that. It looked to me like the were grabbing the players around the neck and holding the helmet between their arm and body.

Then you are truly unobservant.

The head movement created by a facemask is distinct. The only similar motion is caused by grabbing a player's hair. SMU's players do not have hair that could be held onto.

There was more than one facemask.

The facemask on Jeremy Johnson was the only one I saw. The Darius Johnson fumble play looked like they grabbed him under the facemask around his chin and neck. If that's a penalty then the refs missed it. It does resemble the movement of a facemask but I don't think it's a penalty.

The DJ play was not one of the three. Like I said, I haven't watched the film, but they were pretty obvious to me. I recall two of the being on the opposite sideline.

I was not referencing the Darius Johnson fumble.

You missed two facemasks.

If I recall correctly, one of the announcers thought that baylor grabbed DJ's facemask on the fumble.....in fact he thought that it wouldn't be ruled a fumble/td b/c the facemask came first. Then his comment was, to the effect, that they didn't call the other facemask that happened a few plays earlier so they probably won't call this one either. I'm not re-watching the game to see though!!!

If the helmet comes off the player must sit out the next play I believe.. could all the helmet tackling be coaching inspired?
