Don't Forget: 4th quarter: TCU v. Baylor 2011 (47-23)

The score was BS. We don't get that personal foul on the first series, it's a different game. TCU last year was owned by Baylor 47-23 until the 4th quarter when TCU had a nice 25 point run to finish 50-48. We beat TCU in 2011, but I doubt we could have put up 48 against Baylor last year with J.J. McD at the helm and held RGIII to 3 points in a quarter. Maybe Baylor is an all around better team then SMU this year but SMU didn't get beat that bad. Numerous bad calls + flukes + no momentum +zero breaks = a runaway. It happens.

My only issue is if SMU is going to start the season with BCS schools they need to do it against schools like LSU, Alabama, USC, Florida State a.k.a North Texas. At least then when we get beat 59-24 no one thinks SMU is bad, just not a top 5 yet. And if by some miracle we beat one of those teams it's national news. Who cares if those teams don't come to Dallas in return.

I know everyone is bummed by the game, but I was actually encouraged by the fact that SMU has a real quarterback. Just look at when Gilbert threw those quick out passes. They were on the money. No adjustment backward by the receiver was required, they were caught in stride. Plus, Gilbert didn't cause any turnovers...one was a fluke, and the others were curtesy of the refs missing easy calls. I look forward to seeing Gilbert when he's not playing from behind. (Yes that may only be if we win a coin toss).

TCU and A&M will be different. One of them is definitely going down. Hopefully the one that goes down redeems us against Baylor.

Stop all this extrapolating crap. Uh yeah TCU would have lost if they hadn't had a 25 point run. Well UNT would play in the Rose Bowl if they won all their games for the next ten years. When does it end?

If I was extrapolating I would have said:

1st Quarter:
1. First Baylor series and we get a BS 3rd down personal foul......take away that 7.

2nd Quarter:
1.SMU at Baylor 5 intercepted on fluke tip that lead to Baylor TD...... take away that 7.(14 or 11 Point Swing because of missed SMU TD/field goal)

3rd Quarter:
1. Darius fumbles because of illegal hit + face mask that is run back for TD.... take away that 7.
2. Interception because missed Holleman face mask that leads to Baylor TD......take that 7.

Final Score 34-31, SMU or 31-27 Baylor depending if you give SMU 3 or 7 on the 95 yard interception return.

replying to key points

1- DJ fumble was NOT a face mask and didn't lead with the helmet.

2- Interception #2 was because the backup LT got pushed into GG causing the pass to be thrown behind the WR. Didn't see a face mask on it but it certainly isn't the cause of the int if it did occur.

Smu was MUCH better than the score indicated but prior to the last drive of the 3rd quarter the yards per play was 9.5 for BU and 4.5 for SMU. Pretty conclusive as to which side was likely going to come out on top even if the large point swings don't occur.

Wordup- So how did DJ's chin strap end up covering his eyes? He let go of the ball because of strain to his face and neck. Watching replay now, db definitely led with the head............a 15k fine in the the NFL.

We need to start the season like TCU or OSU with a lower division cupcake as a tune up game. These types of games where we get jacked up on national TV could hurt future recruiting.

Guy who people thought facemasked him- His right arm is lower than the neck trying to force the fumble and his left hand is on the top left shoulder pad attempting to secure the tackle. Also his chin strap was in place the whole time based on the two views I got of it from the two youtube videos I have access to.

Look at the pic. If he had grabbed with the left the helmet would be turned and chin strap in place.

Guy who people say targeted- Helmet may have made contact but you clearly see him trying to throw the shoulder and simply get low to make a sure tackle. He's not aiming high head-first. He's coming in for the tackle and DJ gets lower than expected. If it's helmet-to-helmet it's clearly not intentional. I'll need to see the replay more for different angles to say for sure whether it was but it's close at minimum.
