After the past 2 decades of being everyone's T-paper, I must say that I have totally enjoyed the past 3 years!

Hopefully SMU makes it to a bowl so everyone can continue to enjoy things.

Enjoyable overall maybe but I don't know about totally. But on the other hand in this sport and baseball too it is impossible to be continually happy with all of the ups and downs so I guess you have to look at the finished product at seasons end to judge. Flop at aggieland offset with big wins over TCU and UCF with flops at USM and Tulsa with wins to secure a bowl win and then coach leaving and then God advising coach to stay.

Let's subtract Bennett's last year and June's first year and just look at some quick win/loss statistics to get an idea what effect June Jones may have had here.
In the ten seasons from 1997 to 2006, SMU's win percentage was 34%. Zero bowls.
From 2009 through 2011, SMU's win percentage was 58%. Three bowls appearances, two of which we won
That's a pretty good three years. Not Pony Express. But pretty damned good.

Amen. Enough said lets shoot for 8-4 season with champ and bowl win.

It's good but not damned good considering he has had less recruiting impediments unlike the other coaches had. If 7 wins per season is the ultimate goal then yes. SMU people generally don't aim for mediocrity as being damn good. But he has tuned SMU in the right direction even if the offense has not been what it was at Hawaii. But let's hope the product on the field we saw last week was a fluke and they turn it around for the rest of the season.

Have we ever had a better three years other than the 80s? I'm not sure, and of course we ARE in an easier league than the old SWC. I haven't given up on this year, either. Just hugely disappointed in our opening game.

Other than the 80's, and a year here and a year there (e.g. 1966), we've been a slightly less than average team since the day Doak Walker hung up his cleats in 1949.

Look, I hate to sound pessimistic, but let's be realistic here.....
I'm not a June sunshiner, but in the last 2 decades have we had a chance at getting any coach even close to his caliber? Not only that, we are getting into a BCS conference next season, and honestly, given where this program has been prior to the last 3 seasons, we aren't anywhere near deserving it. Add on top of that our larger fan base, present company on this board excluded, is pretty pathetic given that a lot of times they don't even come into the game from the Boulevard, when they do they rarely stay past halftime, and if they do that its so their wives can chatter and hardly even notice that a football game is going on.
The last 3 seasons have been great. Sure, I'd love to do better, but I'm not going to assume that we can ever compete year-in and year-out with the big boys ever again. The college football landscape has changed, and I'm not going to be pissed off if my team doesn't go undefeated every season. Sorry.
Having said all that, I do expect us to be competitive every season, and I do expect us to be in the mix for conference championships. We might take it on the chin the first couple years of the Big East, but by God we better not rest on our laurels.

Look at the remaining teams in the Big East. Mark my words, this will cease to be a BCS conference in a few years. Look at the teams, most are C-USA level. Enjoy the picking while you can.

Probably true. But given the teams backfilling CUSA after we leave, it's still a step up from where we would be next season.

I predict it will cease to be a BCS conference in 2014 along with all the other conferences
