The Irish will join the ACC as soon as it can exit the Big East. The Big East currently requires members to provide 27 months notice to exit although West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Syracuse were able to leave earlier by paying a higher exit fee.

Nobody should be surprised. Notre Dame did not want to be associated with a sinking ship. It is a bit ironic though, since the Big East would be a power conference if they had just joined in football when they joined in everything else.

Agreed. I was always leery of SMU joining the Big East, about football and the eastern basketball schools leaving. Coast to Coast conferences IMO do not work.

They'll take as long as they need to sort out the NCAA tourney auto-bid rules, then they can form a new conference where they don't have to deal with football schools.
