Class of 2013 QB Printz no longer in UCLA's plans

Class of 2013 quarterback Eddie Printz Jr. won't be going to UCLA after all.

The signal-caller will not play for Bruins head coach Jim L. Mora next season, and Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that Printz isn't bound for Westwood because the coaching staff no longer wanted to honor his commitment.

The pro-style quarterback from Lassiter High School (Marietta, GA) was also pursued by Pac-12 schools such as USC and Cal before deciding in January to attend UCLA. He had previously been committed to SMU but decided not to go there after former Mustangs offensive line coach and top recruiter Adrian Klemm landed on Mora's staff.

"Coach Klemm confirmed it, and he said ‘If Eddie was my son, I’d go ahead and start looking around,’" Printz's father said. "Coach Klemm couldn’t really explain what happened, but I just feel like Eddie wasn’t [UCLA offensive coordinator] Noel Mazzone’s guy. He was Jim Mora’s guy but I think Noel had a change of heart. I asked Noel in June if Eddie was his guy and he said ‘Yes, he is. He’s the only guy we’re recruiting, and I’m glad I don’t have to go on the road on Friday nights and recruit another quarterback this fall.’ Then he was on the road last Friday."

Current Bruins starting quarterback Brett Hundley has played very well the first two weeks of the season, as the dual-threat redshirt freshman looks to be a perfect fit for Mazzone's offense. Perhaps the former Arizona State OC wants a more mobile QB in the 2013 haul.

Earlier in the summer Georgia running back Keyante Green switched his commitment to Purdue after he hadn't heard much from UCLA following his commitment to the Bruins last February. Perhaps the first-year Bruins staff is adjusting their needs as they see what type of talent they have on the roster.

The 6-3, 200-pound Printz had offers from SEC powers such as Missouri, Auburn and Arkansas before his commitment to the Bruins, so there's no question that he will be in demand. It's obviously disappointing for Printz to have a scholarship pulled, however.

It will be interesting to see if Mora and his staff are able to find a suitable replacement at QB in the 2013 class.

I guess Coach Mazzone found some he wanted more. I hope he finds a home quickly as spots are filling up.

But, but, but, I though Klemm was responsible for UCLA's turnaround, don't tell me that that isn't true, that he is just a position coach without any real say so in the offense!

but but but his remaining commits still have 69 BCS offers highlited, among others, by the No. 9, 12 and 18 OLM at their position-all 4 stars-what does Palchic got? he didn't decommit-UCLA pulled the offer

I could recruit at that level at UCLA.

Oh the fickle nature of verbal commitments from either party.

Oh, no, say it isn't so! I thought Klemm was solely responsible for UCLA's turnaround, now you are telling me he is only a position coach that doesn't even have the authority to offer a recruit?
That he has nothing to do with the offensive decisions at UCLA? That his offensive coordinator and head coach are reallly in charge?

Next you're going to say he has next to little experience coaching an offensive line compared to the "spare" we now have a SMU with dozens of skins on the wall?

True. But Palcic didn't, and I think that is Stallion's point.

Is it too much to ask to have someone on the staff make some calls to the printz family?

Klemm was the guy that got Printz, and Printz still can't trust that June wants to be here. Plus he wants to be the only QB in a class, though he may have to back off that stance since many of the major programs have filled up at QB.
