To compete at a higher level we need to have larger more physical receivers. I understand June at Hawaii had success with smaller guys, but I think he is to liberal with those scholarships here. This is not the WAC. I would even like to see some tight end size guys in the slots to mix it up. I like Dieter on the outside as well.

I completely agree. Dieter fits that. Incoming Jeremiah Gaines definitely fits that. Use Holman for blocking since he can't seem to catch . . . get creative with what you have . . .

What games are you watching? Hollman has been our most productive receiver although that isn't saying much. He's got good size as well, he just needs better work ethic and some experience

That being said, Deiter is a stud receiver in the limited time he's been on the field and deserves a starting position.
Derikk Thompson has been complete trash so far

Has GG thrown it over the middle? I seem to remember many many routes 25 yds in the middle. where is darius also? 5 for 52 - terrible compared to last yr. is he still hurt?

Go watch highlights of Tech game. Doege hitting receivers running skinny posts. What a novel idea. Can we please get rid of the pass to the sideline for no gain?

It isnt the receivers because look how many of those little guys are in the NFL now....sanders, beasley, robinson and JJ says DJ is the best he has ever had. More than have come from TCU, UT, Tech and ags combined in the past 3 years. It is the offense itself which doesn't match up well with athletic lbers and db's who can man up with our "straight routes".
On the other hand a new qb and oline and tough early schedule are a perfect storm of making you look worse than you are....I hope. The NFL is going the opposite direction of all big receivers to a mix where the teams have a mix of big and tall with small and quick.

I've heard that about too many of his players over the years. I posted this in another thread but I'll put it here as well.
I agree with the WRs struggling assessment that is so prevalent on here. Here is a question for the people in the know...Why isn't Dieter out there more? I know he probably isn't perfect but he was at least seeming to make a few plays early on against A&M on the WR screens or whatever you want to call them. It's all very frustrating.

While DJ has not been as good (Baylor, but also being hurt) we know that he will come round. The others not so sure about. The one guy that hasn't dropped any balls and been consistent is Dieter. Hope whatever is holding him back from getting more playing time gets taken care in the off week and he plays more against TCU.

I am not saying we can't have any 5'9 or 5'10 type receivers, DJ for sure has skills. Holeman has caught some balls but he doesn't seem very physical. I guess it just seems to me JJ needs to evolve is offense, it's stagnant and needs some changes. I still believe a bigger tight end in the slot could cause problems in defenses. You can also bring him to block on short yardage.

The spread and run and shoot are supposed to give an edge to "less athletic" offenses" going against superior athletic defenses. If you have the best athletes on offense, especially up front you just line it up and steamroll em like LSU and Alabama and what UT is trying to get back to. If the run and shoot is not utilizing the receivers and Qb's we have and the young o-line then it is a problem with the offense. If you are passing a lot out of this offense then it should open it up for some yardage on the ground but instead we are a primarily run oriented offense with Line being the only reliable weapon and defenses are figuring out how to slow him down and still not give up anything through the air. Hopefully it will work itself out as we get into conference but confidence is a big part of a successful teams makeup. As the great coach said...."winning is habit-forming but unfortunately so is losing".

Typo. Meant to say Holeman. Big, strong guy. Iffy hands.

Austin Fuller looked very strong in camp. He's big, strong, and fast and has good hands. He gets in the game some, but is never thrown to. He would seem to fit the need.

Why in the world is Austin Fuller not playing? He's a big target, has great hands... And he played 3 plays last game? Has not been thrown the ball once. Give him a chance at least. It seems Garret already has his mind made up before he throws the ball. I don't get it. Why is he not playing? Waste of talent if you ask me.

I agree on the Austin Fuller issue, why isn't he playing. He showed the best hands in pre-season and seems to be the only receiver not afraid to pick up a block. There isn't a reciever starting that plays physical enough off the line yet Jones continues to play the same set over and over, getting the same poor results...over and over! I also had high hopes for Gilbert, but he doesn't seem capable of surveying the field well and shows the defense his throwing intent from the moment he takes the snap. Maybe June doesn't want to show his hand before the conference games...that would seem to be the only explanation outside incompetence! We will see with TCU.
