I noticed A&M got who I thought were WRs isolated on Taylor Reed(great play). Jagared Davis and Stephen Sanders on long balls about 5 times Saturday. I don't remember that happening as many times before. Did that have anything to do with not having a nickel back in there we can count on or was that just pretty much how we have always defended a spread defense. Did we go with a Nickel or are we just staying with our reasonably fast LBs in coverage. What was going on there. Haven't seen a replay

Didn't that also happen several times at Baylor? I don't remember this either in the past under Mason, so not sure if it's about our lack of secondary depth or OC's are adjusting to our scheme.

The long slot WR TD at Baylor was cover 3. Maybe Mason adjusted to have the LB's give underneath help on a vertical WR threat but whatever he was calling vs A&M was different than the BU seam plays.

We got really lucky on a number of those, and one great play, can't remember who, Taylor Reed I think. It was definitely something A and M figured our about our D.

I think when you are overmatched you gotta pull out all the stops and take some gambles. It was working early but then ags got lucky bounce on a fumbled punt and then your offense is 3 and out and then you got a scrambling qb making plays out of the pocket and then the confidence and effort and body language start faltering and then the snowball effect kicks in like it did at Baylor. Nothing to be ashamed about. I don't think I saw any players giving up.

Or Mason not calling a good scheme in the situation. Doesn't seem like Mason makes too many adjustment during a game.

Our safeties were pretty much non-existant for most of the game.

that has been one of my major criticisms of Mason. He never seems to make many adjustments.

It looked like they just ran out of gas. We did a good job against their running game, and stayed disciplined containing Manziel most of the first half when he didn't have anywhere to throw. The first TD was that familiar problem adjusting to the no-huddle. They got a couple first downs and we weren't able to sub in quick enough. We were still getting into position when they snapped the ball, and it left Swope wide open in the middle of the field. Should have called a time out because we were clearly on our heels before the play. Later, our tired D-Line lost contain on a couple of Manziel's scrambles and the wheels came off with a couple big plays.

I think our D will do okay in conference play against lesser talent unless they start mailing it in. Our offense is a clusterfire.

All may be true, but something's about our defensive scheme put LBs on WRs and I surprised we never got burned on it.

Does Mason or June ever have the defense practicing with the offense in a no-huddle offense simulation? Seems like an important thing to do in advance of TCU.
