JJ comments re scheduling sound as if our TCU rivalry is coming to an end. Anybody else get that message?

Theres no way he would get away with unscheduling TCU. I would be furious.

Rivalries are a large part of what makes college football great.

SMU better not be the one doing the cancellation-this game is just now turning into an annual sellout at both schools. SMU gets maybe 15,000-18,000 of its own fans paid to games than don't include schools our fans care about. You will find that the NBE will do very little to improve attendance. If we can only get at most 18,000 of our own fans to see A&M then it is not going to improve against SDSU, Rutgers, Memphis, UH(a little), UCONN, Louisville, Boise(terrible attendance in WAC), USF, UCF etc. I'm not in the "Run June Jones out of Town" crowd but if he's the one proposing this I'd rather keep the TCU game and get a Coach that's not afraid to play our traditional rivals. Its not June Jones' decision-this is a school decision just as Texas/OU in Dallas and the continuation of UT/A&M

Discontinuing the TCU/SMU game would _not_ be cool.

As I said yesterday, it is just another indication that JJ has not really bought into being a part of the SMU community. It's just a job, man. It's just another game to JJ with no understanding or concern for it's importance to the SMU community/fans.

Patterson made similar comments at his presser. I think conference rivalries mean more than non conference rivalries. JJ said on TXA 21 that the job of the AD is the get the team to 4-0 on non conference play.

You don't drop the TCU rivalry game if you can help it. Period.

Patterson made the same type of comments. Jones doesn't want to end the rivalries - rivalries are great for local interest.

From a recruiting standpoint, TCU doesn't want to do us any favors. That game helps us more than them as far as getting more games in the state.

I think you also have to realize that with UT replacing A&M on thanksgiving, TCU wants to be that second rival with UT after Oklahoma. I am sure that is what they have their mind on.

Also, with being in the uber competitive Big 12, TCU will probably back off on their non-conference scheduling.

I think ending the rivalry would be driven much harder by TCU than by us.

Beating them on Saturday won't help.

I think TCU will be the one to cancel the series. I don't think we are stupid enough to want to end it per Stallion's rationale. In TCU's view they have left us in the rear view mirror and have reached their utopia in the Big 12.

I have not seen any recent updates or heard any question of the coaches recently on the status of Rogers for this game. Do we know anything, will he play?

Also, I don't get the impression that Coach Jones wants to cancel the TCU game, IMO there is too much upside for us right now. I think that would be more of a TCU initiative if it does occur.... hopefully not. I think Coach is right, all this conference shuffling etc., can create some challenges and other needs.

My concern is also TCU would probably be the one not wanting to play SMU anymore. They have plenty of new rivals in the Big 12 to play every year,and probably would rather know they are going into Big 12 play 4-0. Texas State, Grambling, UTSA, and Tulane sound about right for their future out of conference play.
