Coach Phillips

Through the first few games, this is the worst I have ever seen a group of SMU receivers play since I have been watching SMU football (24 years). They are undisciplined, can't catch, and jog through their routes. Several times Gilbert looked to Keenan Holman and he was purposely running into his defender (not a called block). Dieter goes in for one play, drops the ball, and then is never put back into the ball game while JJ and Holman are allowed 3+ times. Cole Loftin goes in, makes a huge play, and then rarely sees the field again. I expected a much improved wide receiving corp this year but it looks like they have gotten worse since Reinbold left. Although Gilbert hasn't looked great, he's throwing balls that would be caught by even average receivers. If your starters are going to loaf around out there, put in Sims, Joseph, etc. Give some other guys a chance.

It is almost as though the bad WR play is intentional. Perhaps the ASU debockle has soured the team

This may be a dumb question, but why did none of the WR's wear gloves? For either team.

Chill. Phillips inherited a receiver corps devoid of NFLers Sanders, Robinson and Beasley. DJ, while talented is a notorious loafer. Thomas is a blazer with mediocre hands. Jeremy J is the only decent starter.

Coach Phillips is a no show...he should have had them mentally prepared and if they weren't, gather them in the second quarter and re-motivate them. Nothing like that happens.....they have to look the ball into their hands...it was all mental. Whether you catch the ball or not, you are going to get hit.....be ready.

Rain actually makes those gloves really slippery. Easier to catch with bare hands when its raining. You would think with today's technology they would figure out how to make some gloves that help in the rain.

No gloves might be a coaching thing.

Time to do a little digging?

The receiver play was appalling. I get the rain, which was definitely a factor. But I was really hoping to see improvement after the bye week. Very disappointing. Not sure what it will take to get this offense at least somewhat on track. But even halfway decent offense last night would have equaled an SMU win with all the self-inflicted problems TCU had.

Many of the drops were off the chest not off the hands, for both teams. Rain may have been affecting their vision.

I am ready for phillips to take a hike along with jj and his other retirees. This program is on its death bed with a DNR note on it.
