with McDermott and last year's WRs we win that game by 2 TDs. We needed a fairly safe bus driver and WRs to make a few key grabs and the outcome is totally different. Also, JJ's inability to get Line more involved with his play calling didn't help.

No question, totally agree. Funny how McDermott looks so much better. He def made some bad int. throws but I sure wish we had him one more year.

Listened to Patterson's post game. He said after having Line burn them for the past 2 years, they developed their entire defensive plan around stopping him. He went on to say that he did not know it was going to rain but that helped with their defensive scheme.

Agree. McD and Beasley/last year's DJ would have scored at least 35

like I've said before, and we all know, when you have 1 offensive threat, the other team will shut him down. goes back to coaching or lack of.

Kudos to Patterson. If they geared up for Line, it was the perfect game plan, it played right into our weakness (theWRs), and rain and cold have always been the weak points in the R&S.
It was the "Perfect Storm" formula for a TCU blowout, but the D was for the most part excellent. The TV timeouts and non-fast-pace TCU offense kept our kids from getting totally gassed. Gilbert looked largely improved to me, and was hitting some receivers and sustaining some drives. I think we will look much better against slower, smaller, less athletic CUSA DBs.
June is fine. My only issue with the staff at this point is recruiting and pathetic admin support. 2 years or so ago when we didn't recruit any standout OLs except for the kid we couldn't get admitted (who I believe is now playing for Oregon), you could see the SNAFU coming. Now we need to recruit some big kids who can run and catch, and some big-time OLs.

PP the problem is next year we will be facing better completion just about every week and this team will not be prepared to meet the challenge.

June is not fine...this team is not prepared....mentally. They have to be mentally prepared and they aren't in any way, except for the defense. It starts at the top...the recruiting is not heading up to the competition and June apparently has no 5 year plan or anything of substance to give any of us hope that this will get better.

June is not fine, because he doesn't place enough emphasis on recruiting, is stubborn beyond belief, wont update anything he does to match the times, and only hires old cronies. The admin has done EVERYTHING he has asked them to do - it is time for us to get the next level kind of guy. Someone who knows how to sell recruits on what SMU offers - which is damn attractive.

I stopped watching the game because I knew we didn't have a chance of winning. If we had McDermott, we would have been in the game. This offense isn't worth watching and doesn't get people in the stands.

PS- right on. I feel that jj has checked out mentally and physically when it comes to really coaching these players. As a result, they sense it and are only going through the motions wanting to get to the end of the year.

Our offensive line does a great job with pass protection. But they can't make surges forward for run blocking. That's why Zach Line hasn't done as well this year. He really benefitted from the past two offensive line years.

I wouldn't flame you, I made the same point last night. That should have been an easy to game win (surprisingly), all we had to do was connect on the most basic of throws and actually get points off of a 1st and goal on the 1. And we couldn't do that.

Absolutely not true. McDermott's lack of mobility would have gotten him slaughtered with the line this year.
The last time we graduated the entire line was the before Bennett's last year. Anyone remember how great we did offensively that season even though we had our QB and all skill positions returning? Remember 4 downs at Rice?

Exactly, McDermott sucks. Padron on the other hand if he had gone through strength training over spring to be able to throw the ball in the wind. This year definitely could have been something. Then again we have the soccer player WRs...
