CUSA Play Is The Best Time Of The Year

Most all games will be competitive. Usually no lead is safe. We have not gotten blown out much nor have we blown out many if any teams during Coach Jones time here. But since this is a down year for CUSA we could do very well. Should be fun. Like the song says:

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

USM is playing so bad that their new coach is on the hotseat. UH beat Rice mainly because the Rice starting QB was out due to injury but UH is playing so bad that their new coach had to fire his OC and now he is just about on the hotseat. We get Tulsa at home and we always play them well here.

The absolute key to the year is this week's game. Beat a team that is tough to beat on the road, plus it’s a conference win and it puts us in a position to be .500 before Houston, is huge. I know all games are huge from this point on but this one really gives us a chance for a strong season.

I know folks are PO’ed that we got beat by 3 solid non conference games. But face it, we beat them and we probably don’t do much better bowl wise than if we win the conference. We win the conference; we go to the best bowl available to the conference. We beat BU, A$M, and TCU and win our conference, we go to the best bowl available to our conference. We lose to BU, A$M and TCU and win our conference, we go to the best bowl available to our conference.

If we would have beaten BU, A&M, TCU and won all our conference games we would have been in a BCS bowl IMO. So I have to disagree with that somewhat. But all we have to do is win conference now. If we win conference or don't but still qualify for a bowl we still go the the Hawaii Bowl either way. We can do this.

I don't believe that BU or TCU will have strong enough seasons to vault us up the BSC computer rankings into a BSC bowl, especially after what happened to BU this weekend. A$M has the best team to do well but we will see what happens when A$M plays teams with athletes that can contain Johnny Football. Also, I don’t think we get BSC consideration until we have shown we are consistent winners against strong competition. Houston had been winning for some time when it was considered a BSC buster. Same is true for BSU, TCU and others. Hawaii is the exception.

We would have been on contention for a BCS bowl after having gone to 3 bowls on a row. You are dead wrong on that one. We would have been like Hawaii.

Had SMU gone undefeated they would definitely been in the hunt for a BCS bowl. Now let's just hope they get to a bowl.

So far our offense has played:

Baylor: not very productive against them
SFA: somewhat productive but very inefficient, defense scores more points than offense...
A&M: we got a field goal...
TCU: we couldn't score on 1st and goal on the 1

I'm not sure how our offense will translate against CUSA teams, but if we can't at least drop a few TDs on these weaker defenses, you can forget about us beating UTEP, Tulsa, Houston, and USM.

Well aren't you quite the optimistic one. We already circled Thursday on the calendar. After we take care of UNT/NTSU at The Rob this Saturday. Piland is gonna go off on SMU like he did 2 years ago. He'll be playing in front of his hometown crowd and it will have him fired up. JJ should have offered him. (Or did he? Too lazy to look it up.)

Did you see some of the negative tweets Piland had been getting before the Rice game? Do you not think Levine is pretty close to the hotseat with all that has transpired? Your own board was lighting Levine and Piland up like a Christmas tree before this past week.

Cougar King since you are suppose to be an actual UH fan do you realize that UH plays UAB after UNT not SMU?

We're good. Ponyte is fine with where we are, still has us winning C-USA, and has shown me the error in my thinking. Let us rejoice that we are now in powder puff part of schedule, and we can all feel good and puffed up again after hanging an L on Memphis and Tulane. Maybe even make a bowl again. Which new bowls pitting C-USA #5-7 vs Sunbelt #5-7 are on tap this year.

I honestly forgot about UAB. Of course I saw the tweets. I'm still somewhat leery about Piland and Levine but if they have a good run through Cusa, everything will be fine.

I'm only concerned with the Tulsa game.
The rest of the teams are going to be tough, no doubt, but I think we can play competitively against them. Win, lose? I don't know, but I think (hope), they'll be good games.
