Jake Shaw on texasfootball.com has interesting article on this game. Says both coaches on hot seat. Interesting read. Check it out.

UTEP beats us by about 2 touchdowns. Gilbert continues to throw picks and the offense does not score many points. I hope I am wrong though. SMU needs this win if it wants to keep its bowl hopes alive.

If that happened even I might say JJ would be on the hotseat. But I think we will win since the level of talent is about even.

Despite the passing game issues here, UTEP has the worst offense between the 2 teams. Both defenses seem fairly good. UTEP's defense played well against OU in particular. I give SMU the edge based upon a horrible UTEP offense. I also think our receivers will not drop so many this time since they will be up against a much lower level of competition.

Worse Offense ? Really ? They have Senior QB and a RB who ran wild over OU's defense and now is almost back to 100%, and get their number 1 WR back.
I wish it was not the case, believe me, but don't know how much worse you can be to this point than our offense.

Call me a homer....SMU will benefit from hard scheduling and run the table. Each game substantially better as the confidence levels rise. Tough scheduling leads to tough teams.
SMU by 9 over UTEP

it worked for Tulsa last year. If SMU can't get up for this game at 1-3 then its going to be a long year. But we've never played well in El Paso

They didn't show that in the Wisconsin game.

Hey Sparty- wish you had 5-6 more here like Zack. He brings it every game and every play- never quits. I wish the rest of the team had his desire and work ethic. You should be very proud of him.
PS. Glad my Bucks won but love MSU. Uncle live on golf course in Okemos and I spent a lot of time at MSU.

I really think we'll find some offensive production in this one. Even with GG the offense showed signs of clicking against the frogs in the first half. I actually wanted to leave the game after that drive. Figured it wouldn't get any better than that. At the very least, UTEP's D does not have the size, athleticism and talent of TCU's. They may have some confidence early, but a couple of first downs could go a long way in the first quarter.

Playing UTEP at the stadium in the mountain is a whole different experience. There will be plenty of BBQ grills smoking out the parking lot. It will drift unto the field as well. Remember the officiating. It will be horribly one-sided. SMU needs 30 to win. They have to beat Utep and the officials. How confident are you that they generate those points with all the adversity they will have to overcome?

Pretty confident. Need to score early. UTEP will crumble. GG is something like 5-6 against them. I predict a similar completion percentage.
