TCU Fans Getting Called Out

Galloway is calling out TCU fans for not showing up to their game on Sat. Said thre wasn't 30,000 fans there. Said the fans deserted them. From watching that seems about right. Galloway says the people he talked to were sick of the drug scandal and when Pachall got popped for DWI that was the last straw. Said patterson needs to bench pachall the rest of the year and he should play in a TCU uniform ever again.

IMO, the fans will be there for Texas, but it is kind of funny they did not show up for their big debut. Guess the TCU fans are not the greatest fans in college football some have portrayed them.

Where is Stallion? Stallion likes to call us out and pump up TCU, but haven't noticed him commenting on the lack of a sell out in Ft. Worth.

Maybe they saw the writing on the wall over there. Can't wait until tomorrow.

no - fact is there is not that many of them, and they benefited greatly by their stadium being funded at the same time they hit the rose bowl, followed by Big 12 news - all great stuff for them - but they are still pretty small, and when a lesser opponant that brings nobody much (iowa state) comes to town it will be a yawner.

could be trouble over there if they fall off the table for a couple of yrs. Although they will benefit from no other pro sports in town to drain off attention. And they have the DFW alcholic/cocaine/pot college football fans all locked up - so they have that going for them.

when all is said and done, TCU remains a "sister school" of SMU meaning they are another small private school that will never have the same large following the larger public schools enjoy. The fact is they are still doing a lot better than SMU, but will have trouble filling ACS unless the visitors bring a crowd (and Iowa State isn't going to bring the numbers that Baylor, Texas or Tech will

My point is we get bashed all the time for no crowd. Even TCU at the height of their popularity has problems filling a stadium when they have an opponent no one cares about and that doesn't bring fans with them. All small schools will have that problem. I am sure Baylor had the same problems until they got good. Unless small schools play traditional rivals, attendance is a problem. So no more [deleted] and no more brown nosing TCU from the critics on PFs.

Compound the small size of TCU with the fact that their student body is 62% female - not known as the most fanactic fans - then their attendence will suffer.

Its back to the old days where the big state school brings the big crowd and all others are a mixed bag.

But SMU would still like to be in TCU's shoes - big state school, big crowds, and lopsided loss.

It's a very good point. But I still think TCU has made WAY more in-roads with casual DFW fan than SMU has. I was at the state fair today and there were so many people wearing TCU gear, and I counted only 5-6 with SMU (more than I was expecting honestly). But still, if a ranked Big XII TCU is struggling to get more than 30k, then I guess it goes to show you that it's not just winning (and the opponent you bring in), but also the type of university you are.

what good is a t-shirt fan if they don't even go to the games?

I mentioned it in Stallions scoreboard thread on Saturday, there wasn't any response. That upper deck was almost empty.

Were the TCU people at the fair working "Guess My Weight" or the Tilt-o-Whirl?

doesn't help SMU's cause if TCU can't generate big crowds. We are hoping to get to where they are now someday, and we can say goodbye to any hope of ever joining a big conference if they fail to hold their own in the Big 12.

By brother went to TCU from 06-10 and in those 5 fall seasons he pretty much never saw them lose other than his first year. He said the TCU/SMU game last year was the first home game he had ever been at that they were beat. Their fans are spoiled and the new ones who have only ever witnessed TCU dominating are going to have to come back to reality.

no reason they can't be competitive in the big 12. their recruiting has been great for many years in a row, and plenty of talent in the metroplex, even with some siphoned off by ut and ou.

Final Rivals recruiting rankings the last few years:

2013 TCU 44 (class not complete)

2012 TCU 37

2011 TCU 26

2010 TCU 46

2009 TCU 46

2008 TCU 96

Based on at least those rankings, they can expect to be mediocre at best in the Big 12.

Those numbers don't reflect the quality of recruits they've brought in.

I'll just wait for Stallion to speak up to support my claim.

but if you want to compare, here's the rest of the big 12 for the last 2 years. (you can go back farther if you want)
I'll leave out UT and OU who clearly have great recruiting classes every year.
Texas Tech - 26/20
Iowa State- 87/51
Kansas- 74/34
K State - 58/68
Baylor - 45/46
WVU- 48/47
OSU - 32/28

TCU - 37/26

So they are essentially on par with Oklahoma State and are ahead of every team on that list besides Texas Tech. So just looking at this, their recruiting is top half of big 12, and in line with everyone except UT/OU. They'll be competitive.
