BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- Jerry Sandusky has been sentenced to at least 30 years in prison in the child sexual abuse scandal that brought shame to Penn State and led to coach Joe Paterno's downfall.

The sentence means the 68-year-old former Penn State assistant coach will be in prison at least until he's nearly 100 years old.

Judge John Cleland issued the sentence Tuesday, three months after a jury convicted Sandusky on 45 counts of child sexual abuse.

Sandusky maintains his innocence and plans to appeal, a process his lawyer has said will probably begin in the coming weeks.

Sandusky is professing his innocence, says he is not a monster and says he didn't do the "alleged disgusting acts."

So what's the over/under on how long he lasts in prison?

I’m really not a barbarian or a cruel hearted person. But, I believe a public stoning would be a good start … at least let all the victims tee it up.

Yep and the Nittany Lions are 4-2, and a missed field goal away from 5-1. Some are even saying the new Penn State coach may deserve coach of the year accolades! Rah Rah Rah serve up the popcorn and cotton candy! The Stadium is full and the cheerleaders are leading the cheers. Take the statue down, order some nachos, and cheer for ole Penn State!

Even with a decade long cover-up by Penn State officals of horrendous sexual predation....hell the show (money train) must go on according to the NCAA.

Give SMU the death sentence over cash and cars because SMU officials knew what was going on, but hey don't give Penn State the death sentence when over 40 cases of rape and/or abuse goes on because Penn State officials doesn't call the cops to stop a child rapist one of their own...ya know Penn State officials didn't wanna spoil the party every Saturday....football (money) is more important than kids!

Great Sandusky's in jail....and a few miles away the sounds of Fall afternoons are the same as if nothing ever happened.

I think a 100+ year sentence would still not been enough. I would think the 30-60 year time, albeit the rest of his life, is still a slap in the face of those victims and families. A hundred year sentence would have sent a stronger 'no-tolerance' message.

With that said, he may not make it more than a couple years in the slammer with that resume.

IMHO covering up the crime is about just as bad as committing it personally... They deserve the removal of football for every person that they covered up against... Our death sentence for petty crime of paying players that right now are arguing for... Whereas this crime so serious and physically and mentally hurtful deserves far worst punishment than our crime yet... Politics triumph and they were able to "cooperate" with NCAA for lesser sentence... Wished we had a dexter Morgan for football crimes...

It wouldn't matter how long the sentence was, it still won't take the pain away from those who were hurt by this monster. They could have sentenced him to a million years but it still won't make those people he hurt feel better. If he had been 20-30 years younger, I think you would have seen a longer sentence. However, with his age and all, there was no point. Symbolism is great and all but it's not going to bring back the lost innocence of the kids he molested.

Completely agree. Those kids' innocence is forever gone. I have kids and if this had happened to one of them, I would have wanted him dead.

i doubt Sandusky is alive in 3 years. He better watch his back. Jeffrey Dahmer found that out!

"Dahmer was attacked twice in prison, the first time in July 1994. An inmate attempted to slash Dahmer's throat with a razor blade. Then on November 28, 1994 while doing janitorial work in the prison gym, Dahmer was severely beaten by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver with a broomstick handle. Dahmer died of severe head trauma while on his way to the hospital."

Part of me agrees with you, but the other part thinks the judge got it right. The judge intended for him to spend the rest of his life in prison.

With the sentence handed down, he will never ever get out of a prison unless he is toes up and room temp.

We would have been better off just dumping him near here and letting everyone just best the living [deleted] out of him til he couldn't breathe, because those liberal northeast courts will probably find it cruel and unusual to leave in old man in prison and give him parol.... An SMU law professor is for keeping prisoners out of prison to the best of her ability stupid criminal law prof

That's nonsense, the justice system gets panned more for insane senetences that are ultimately impractical and meaningless, symbology is [deleted] with regards to incarceration and anyone who is dumb enough to think that a 30 yr sentence vs a 100yr for a 68 yr old is more severe in any meaningful way that might deter a more intelligent person, is the kind of person we need to scare with this crap.

Great post! It makes me sick as the real crimes were at Penn State and may Sandosky rot in prison.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. By the way Jerry's innocence is now for sale. Going rate is 1/2 pack of smokes and an extra desert during lunch.
