Why Firing NOW makes sense...

1. Can spin the PR to say we want only excellence in athletics, what we witnessed is not up to our standards, and we are no longer going to put up with it. Would make us look like we are serious and have some sort of plan.
2. It is easier to get fans and potential customers to buy into committing time, money, other resources if they are building for something better in future rather than a sinking ship (no doubt this is in decline and even if it is not that is the perception). Right now attendance rest of year will in all probably be a joke.
3. There are several of us long time supporters that are now willing to say this is enough and we are done. I posted before about the 2 LETTERMEN in my section who said at A & M game they are done unless he is gone immediately. If you don't do something you lose your long term support base. These are alot of your customers who have footed the bill the last 20 years.
4. You may be able to have something to spin to recruits. As it is now, there is no positive to sell any recruit, especially if they know coach is gone end of year. At least you could sell we are getting someone young, energetic, and knows what he is doing so please stay with us.
And please, please stop calling some of us for more money until you show you are truly committed to getting this right or at least workign some plan. Ironic I received 2 voices mails this week from SMU, one about baskeball season tickets and increased donations, and one about potential for additonal donation to help with athletic upgrades. Don't call me for any more checks until you get your house in order first...
