Observations from the 45 Yard Line

1. First game since 1983. I might wait until 2032 for the next one....

2. Our attendance issues are eclipsed by Tulane's.

3. Player parents are excellent people. Had the pleasure of sitting by the parents of Torlan Pittman, Jay Scott and Ben Gottshalk. Great fans who cheered every play and every player. Smart fans, too.

4. O-Line provided incredible protection on passing plays. 7-9 seconds.

5. Zach was his usual steady self, has great feet and runs with power.

6. Zach needs to be complemented in the backfield with a speed back who can hit the corners. Especially in goal line situations.

7. Didn't see that the guys were being coached up on the sidelines.

8. At the time, and although it was a difficult call, our little group believed we should have gone for the TD instead of kicking the FG, and we were all absolutely beside ourselves that we threw the fade route and stopped the clock.

9. GG has back-foot-itis.

10. Kicking game turned it up a notch.

11. Everyone in our group believe JJ lost or should lose his job.

12. Mustang Band was its usual excellent self and was a a bright spot on an otherwise bleak day.

13. It's hard to be a fan of Mustang football.

14. Thanks to all for contributing, but don't take it out on the players and don't wish for failure. They want to win--more than we want them to.

Their parents are good and they deserve better.

Great post. Valuable thoughts.

Glad you made a game and hope you had fun outside the loss. Please don't wait to 2032 to go to another.

I won't wait that long (I won't last that long). Had a good father-son experience with my 17 y/o O-Line son at the game. And a great reunion with Don Hopkins and others at the Mustang Band. All good people.

Check your PM. NO is as good a place as any to get back to a game. Glad you had a great experience especially with your son.

Of the games I have attended in person in the JJ era, which includes some good (the UTEP win to get into the first bowl in the post-DP era), some OK (the hard fight against TCU at home two years ago), and some bad (the A&M game this year), I feel that there used to be more intensive "coaching up" on the sidelines, and that it has declined steadily to the point that there is absolutely none this year. I recognize that this is both anecdotal and subjective, but I think it's very apparent.
