Are you effing kidding me??? Win 4 of 4 and we are in the Conference Championship and a chance to go to the Liberty Bowl against an SEC school. That drives me flipping crazy!

Been like this from the beginning. I guess it reflects the view of those at the top - do the minimum to get by with athletics to keep the rich alumni from revolting: cellar bowl game and 6/7 wins every year.

That is a totally defeatist statement and I am not trying to defend it, but as far as bowls with which there is a CUSA tie in, the Hawaii Bowl is the one best for the kids, and I am sure that is where the players would like to go as opposed to say Birmingham or Dallas. But come on June, you have to try for the conference championship. Get there and then turn down Memphis for Hawaii. State the goal is to win the championship , not to get to Hawaii. This is why the man aggravates me.

Of course I guess it is better than last year when his goal was to get to Arizona State.

Is it not a problem that our players are more interested in Hawaiian vacation than actually winning something? Maybe someone that played college ball can weigh in.

That was Copeland's goal, or maybe Copeland repeating Turner.

I think it has evolved to that unless you are big enough to go for the crystal football. With so many, bowls have become almost an entitlement. When I was playing you tried to win the national championship first, conference second, and bowl game third. Did not matter where the bowl was, just try to get into one. Of course there were only a handful of bowl games.

I thought they played pretty well last time they were rewarded with a trip to hawaii

His goal was a bowl "every few years". At least we have raised the bar

Good thing we lost to Tulane or else we would be playing for a conference championship and Hawaii Bowl would not be possible.

Let's not make more out of this than is necessary. I think JJ is emphasizing the threshold at which we'd realistically be able to get there in the first place. Their goal is obviously not to ONLY win 3 out of 4 games - the goal is, and has been, to win a conference championship.

That being said, they've also been saying their goal is to be in Hawaii on Christmas Eve. These two goals are NOT mutually exclusive (see So. Miss. last year). This seems to be the situation and I don't think we can harp on JJ for this one - one could argue that the Hawaii Bowl receives just as much if not more attention than the Liberty Bowl (depending on opponent of course). This is clearly more rewarding than a trip to Memphis, and to be honest, I can't envision ANYONE here complaining if we end up C-USA Champions and headed to the Hawaii Bowl after the start to the season that we've had.

These seniors began their SMU careers with a Hawaii Bowl berth. To end it there would be special -especially as C-USA champions.

Keep it all in perspective and let's try to stay positive - we're finally starting to "do what we do."

Why doesn't June just say the goal is a conference championship? If they go to the Independence Bowl or whatever bowl just say the goal is a conference championship.

He did this same f-in' thing in '09. With the Liberty Bowl in sight he aimed low for his personal preference.
That he now openly says was aiming only for the Hawaii Bowl before this season began, his FIFTH, is insulting to our school and our fans.
Please get him out of here.

The Liberty Bowl may not be possible for the CUSA champs due to other ties but I don't really know. The point is the goal should be a conference championship not a bowl that may not be tied to a championship.

This is not how winners talk. Winners talk about conference championships. June is a loser and takes a losers attitude.

I was a June supporter, but now want him out as soon as possible.
