DMN on Gilbert

"Garrett Gilbert’s odyssey has been a strange one. The shoulder surgery, the transfer from Texas, the uneven start to the season. But in the past two weeks, Gilbert has looked good. He tossed four touchdown passes last week against Houston and on Saturday, he had 353 passing yards on 25-of-35 passing (71.4 percent) for a 165.6 passer rating. June Jones stressed that Gilbert is trying to remain patient and not force things, and it really looked like he grasped the offense today."

I'm not going to get too giddy over the performance of these past two games, but I'm praying hard that these numbers become a consistent trend. I've said it all along that Gilbert has the potential to be great, however potential doesn't mean squat if you don't execute. It does appear that Garrett's decision making is improving, seeing that he's utilizing his running ability a little bit more. Let's put these numbers up against UCF now please!

June apologist alert. Yes it's early, but maybe this staff could do something that the Texas staff could not. Here's hoping his improvement continues.

It helps that the receivers are getting open and holding on to the ball and the Oline is doing a better job. And our punt team is flipping the field. A few D turnovers to give us a short field also helps.

PonyTE, a good summary and chacacterization of our abilities and risks. I will accept the more promising of the two views. Thx.

What even I saw in the 2nd half was the "patience" by Gilbert that is being talked about. Of course who gives him the time to be patient? The Bigs. If they play as well against a tougher defense, then we WILL win. Also nice to see was the more inventive goal line offense on the option by GG. About time! Didn't we score on that play with Padron last year?

In the 2011 UTEP game we scored on a Padron option keeper.

I thought that the Memphis defense did a pretty decent job in the first half especially their secondary. Second half adjustments gave Gilbert more open receivers because they were covered up in the first half. Now if I can get that pom routine song Gangnam Style out of my head I can get back to work.

Not having to play a big 12 schedule should also be helpful for gilbert... We don't need him to be a heisman candidate, just good enough to lead this offense.

Positive pub can only help this young man. Perhaps build even more confidence.
