We need a 'recruiter'. NFL coaches don't seem to fair very well in the world of college recruiting. We should know that by now.

Agreed, but I was thinking along the LB model of surrounding him with a staff who knows how to recruit.

There will be several NFL teams offering him salaries in the neighborhood of 7 million per season. He's not coming here. I know some people are looking for a Larry Brown type for the football program but Payton isn't it.

Might also want to look at Dave Wannstedt who is currently asst coach/defensive coord with the Bills. His Pitt teams weren't all that bad IIRC. At least he has some college recruiting exp..
Of course I still prefer Sonny Dykes but I imagine we will be in a long line for his services.

Wonder how long the line would be for Bama's DC, Kirby Smart?

LB is a proven college coach. Not the same.

He doesn't come here for any price, but on money:

The bball boosters were willing to front insane money. Football has to save face and try to do something at least remotely as awesome. Ford but himself could pay 10 mil/yr and not even notice. I don't think money really matters

probably the Dallas Cowboys' next coach

he will not coach for Dallas because I don't believe that he wants anything to do with that version of jj.
His relationship with Benson is good and he has a lot of authority which he would not have in Dallas.

Dykes...the guy can recruit, coach, and build interest in a TINY market. He is proven, and I think a gem in the making.

IMO you are correct but I think we will be in a very long line for his services.

do we really need to turn over the entire staff? if we do, we run the risk of having absolutely no talent in our incoming class. why don't we turn the team over to mason and let JP run the offense?
