What If...

99% of ponyfans, including myself, are incredibly disappointed with the way this season has gone. Reflecting on our schedule now that A&M has knocked off #1 bama on the road, how would everyone feel had we actually won the tcu and tulane games? Baylor hasn't exactly lit it up this season, but they have 1 score losses to WV, Texas, OU. Everyone knows what happened against Tulane - no excuse for that. TCU tried multiple times to hand us that game, and we just couldn't capitalize.

So, if we were 7-3 right now, with BLOWOUT losses to a&m, baylor and UCF, how would everyone feel? Excited that we posted a good record? Or still p!ssed off at June about all the things everyone is angry about?

I don't think this hypothetical is far fetched at all, since 2 of those games were so much within our reach. I do however think that the result would probably be us getting punked by UCF again in the title game - in which case - does anyone care if we go 9-4, but don't win CUSA? It wouldn't change our bowl outlook, and I don't think it would have a recruiting impact. So what would everyone think about the season at this point had those 2 games gone our way?

Not being competitive or prepared in those games were the biggest issue IMO. Florida just barely beat ULL this past weekend. If we lost like that no one would have a problem with our record.

I woud be very satisfied with the season. I would still see the game against Rice as a must-win and would expect us to beat Tulsa at home. Winning CUSA would be gravy.

SMU has lost to good team and beaten very bad teams. And lost to a bad team That would seem to be a kind of middle of the road mediocre team to me. 0 wins against decent teams does not fair well.

Again, why make a bowl game much harder by a ridiculously hard non-conference schedule? We are supposed to win games against teams that have had a 20 year recruiting advantage against us and athletic departments that actually get support from the university to put a competitive product on the field? I know changes have been made at SMU to help us play catch up but we are still way behind most BCS teams as far as roster talent. We paid June big money and brought him to SMU to win games like this week against Rice. Need to deliver and get a win.

You just made the argument for playing those teams. If we lose to teams like to Tulane anyway, then why not schedule teams our fans actually care to watch i.e. Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU.

The blowout losses are really my biggest issue. I mean TCU just lost by a respectable 13 points against the #1 team in the country... And we can't even stay on the field with a middle of the road big 12 team or the best c-usa team. You can't expect us to win all these games, but I'd like to see us still in the game beyond the 1st quarter.

Obviously I'd be happier with 7-3 (including a 2nd straight win over the Toads) than 5-5 but I'd still be pissed at our lousy recruiting and the fact that "We do what we do" still looks like junk in Year 5.

Should've beaten Tulane, no matter what the situation is. And TCU literally tried to hand us the game, and we gave it right back. The feeling everywhere would be incredibly different, imo, if we won those two. But the blow outs still are more than concerning. We're not where we should be paying this guy as much as we are in year five.

I lost all excitement for the future when the coach said he didn't really recruit kids until they showed an interest in SMU first. I don't care how close or how big of a blowout those games were.
