Kinda like both of them. Travel is gonna be a bit busy.

I think Red will be the easier division as the teams presently stand, with Louisville and USF as the only super tough games. Memphis, Navy, Uconn and SDSU are all winnable games for us.

Yes, it will take a few years to get used to. When folks begin to understand (Memphis and Temple in the West?), they'll shift again. Long-term for SMU it means at least one game a year in the Northeast.

Will they play eight conference games or nine?

PonyinNC,

You should provide the link which is to an ESPN article by McMurphy and not to a conference release.

Keep in mind that these are not official yet. The 2013-2014 structure is almost certainly going to be what McMurphy reported, though.

The 2015 structure may change based upon McMurphy being wrong, things that the BE would have to promise to land a 14th team, or lack of sentiment for non-geographic divisions at that time.

Earlier reports called for the divisions to be called Red and Blue, instead being named geographically but that is now unclear, sources said.

These divisions will be used for the Big East only when it's a 12-team league in 2013 and 2014 because, sources said, they create clear identities for the divisions, preserve rivalries and create new ones, and minimize travel.

Conference and school officials also are expected to discuss how the league's schedule -- five games against division opponents and three crossover games -- might look in 2013 and 2014.

These divisions could change drastically when the Big East grows to 14 teams in 2015 when the league adds Navy and another school yet to be determined.

That means at least one game per year that will be easy to attend for me. The crossover game for SMU will probably be UH. That means we play other division teams once every 6 years and at home once every 12 years. So the probability is that with Rutgers, Temple and Cincy in the other division, I'll get to see two games per year.

Lucky for SMU next year...other than Boise, the West division will be no more difficult than CUSA this year.

EAST:
UofL (9-1)
UC (7-2)
RU (8-1)
UCONN (4-6)
USF (3-6)
UCF (8-2)

39 - 18 overall

WEST:
Boise (8-2)
Temple (3-6)
SDSU (8-3)
UH (4-6)
Memphis (2-8)
SMU (5-5)

30 - 30 overall

Boise's not that much better than UCF. Would be fun to watch them play each other this year.

Having to face TWO winning teams from our own division will be different however..
