And then there is the issue of a new television contract, which is now in the serious negotiation stage with multiple networks now that the exclusive period of dealing with ESPN has expired.
Expect a compromise on that front as well, with the strong possibility of a two or three network package for football and basketball which could split up telecasts of Big East football regular season games, the Big East championship football game, a Big East Saturday football package, a Big East regular season basketball package and a Big East tournament package. Big East officials are hoping that the combined money will come close to generating a $15-17 million per school per year.
