ESPN: Aresco steadies Big East ship

Based on historical evidence, they basically gave the Big East an automatic bid with the caveat that if it doesn't have a very good team in any given season the bid will go to another more deserving team from the remaining 4 conferences that season. This deal protects the bowls from a 2004 Pitt or 2010 UCONN team in the Fiesta Bowl and it protects the Big East from ridicule for sending such teams to BCS bowls.SMU2007 wrote:When people praise the Big East for "getting access" to the playoff system - why are they not praising the MAC, CUSA, MWC, Sun Belt etc.?
Historical evidence but that's with a completely different set of teams in the Big East. I also think the bcs really regretted having that tie in in the last few years since they've lost a few of the teams that gave them their original clout. Don't get me wrong, the conference is still better than the others, but I just hope we aren't on a more level playing field with those other conferences now that everything's changed around.mustangxc wrote:Based on historical evidence, they basically gave the Big East an automatic bid with the caveat that if it doesn't have a very good team in any given season the bid will go to another more deserving team from the remaining 4 conferences that season. No, the historical evidence is based on the teams that will be in the Big East next year.SMU2007 wrote:Historical evidence but that's with a completely different set of teams in the Big East. http://espn.go.com/blog/bigeast/post/_/ ... o-big-eastUnder the new arrangement, current or future Big East schools would have appeared in an elite-level bowl game in eight of the past nine years (2007 Hawaii is the outlier), and Aresco is confident things will only get better from the competition side of things.
That is not a comparative statement. I guess the previous schools could have gone 9 out of 9 years.mustangxc wrote:Rebel10 wrote:Mustangxc, not saying you are wrong but please cite your historical evidence.mustangxc wrote:
