Everyone and I mean everyone has their price:
source:
http://www.coacheshotseat.com/SalariesContracts.htm
Michigan State - Dantonio (my pick) - 2.25 million
Tulsa - Blankenship - 900l
UL Monroe - Berry -(my second choice) - 350k
Vanderbilt - Franklin (my third choice) - 1 million
La Tech - Sonny Dykes - 650k (although I have seen on other sites 750k (2011))
Art Briles (yes that's right) 1.7 million
Yes I am spending other peoples money, but one can hope.

I wonder what Franklin's buyout is. Dykes would be the best for the school if it came down to it imo.

Why would James Franklin take this job? Same goes for Dantonio at MSU, or Art Briles? Those guys are doing great jobs in premiere conferences, why would they come here? Vandy, MSU, and Baylor can all match and exceed our offers.
I'd love Sonny Dykes, but I believe he will have considerably better offers after this season than SMU- Arkansas, Kentucky, and Auburn all come to mind as potential suitors.
I think we've gotta look hard at Kliff Kingsbury. I've also been an ardent supporter of Bobby Petrino, but it seems doubtful that RGT would sign off on that. Whoever we bring in needs to know and understand Texas recruiting, and be able to recruit effectively here. I'm not saying we should be signing four and five stars away from Texas and A&M regularly, but we should be able to win a recruiting battle with Baylor and TCU every once in awhile.

Once again...I started by sayin.. and it is an axiom of life:
"EVERYONE HAS THEIR PRICE"
Question is are we willing to pay it.....
SMU has billionairs and multimillionaries coming out the proverbial ***. Question is what is that price and are we will ing to pay it.
For example: Briles makes 1.75. WE pay him 3 million plus living in Park Cities and all that Dallas has to offer.
Defeatest attitude and willing to accept mediocrity is what got is here.

Interesting that no one has really mentioned Major Applewhite....many wanted him back in 2007, but now he's much more experienced as a coach and could be a real catch.
Seems like he would be worth a hard look.

Yeah, I mean, I didn't take the June Jones rumors seriously five years ago, so I get where you're coming from.
But, unless we're going to wave $4-5 million around, I think the aforementioned coaches wouldn't consider SMU seriously at all. Look at Briles- you're in the Big 12, playing the likes of Texas, OU, K-State, why go to SMU for a little more money to play in front of 20k people against UConn and UCF on Fox Sports Southwest? I think the Baylor boosters would put up any amount necessary to keep Briles in Waco, considering what he's done for the program. Same goes for Franklin at Vandy. We're not the only school with rich alumni.
Todd Berry is an intriguing name, but then again he has a 45-78 lifetime record and only two winning seasons; one of which came at Illinois State 13 years ago. Also does he have any TX ties? I think that needs to be a prerequisite for our new coach

We really, really need to consider him in my opinion. Would be 34 next season, and I think he'd bring a lot of enthusiasm and excitement to the program. Might only be here a few years, though.

As we know this is all in the hands of a few people with more money than...(pick you deity)..
But one can dream....

Coach candidate: "You just fired the guy who took SMU to 3 (or 4) straight bowls? SMU -- the team some thought simply couldn't win? You fired THAT GUY because ... he looked stoic on the sideline? Sure, I'm interested. With job security like that, start the bidding at $5 million a year and go up from there."

Not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic, but that is genuinely my concern and the reason I do not see firing Jones as a no-brainer. You have to know your place in the college football world and SMU settled for far too long thus diluting our brand. At this point many longer see SMU for what it was at one point or what it can be and will think that we should appreciate the success Jones has brought us. Not saying we should not expect more, we definitely should. I am simply concerned about public perception in the coaching circles.

Any coach can take a 5 second look and see June's staff of dinosaurs and recruiting classes trending downward and see why June is/will eventually be out.
The casual public may not, but the casual public is wholly ignorant, otherwise they wouldn't be called "public".

No coaching candidate is going to waste interview time talking about June Jones. They're going to be concerned about salaries, facilities, the academic model and promoting themselves to the interviewer.

We need to have a winner's attitude when it comes to a coaching search. No one at first glance thought the Great Lei would come here--a Hawai'i program that seemed pretty good, made it to a BCS bowl, etc.
We need to take the attitude of our AD's father. Here are his comments about Dooley and the future at Tennessee:
"This is a result-based profession....You cannot ignore the results at the end of the day."
"Derek Dooley did indeed improve this football program. There is no question about that. He inherited a very, very difficult environment, one that I'm now very familiar with having been here for these 13 months. And quite honestly, he was given a pretty short stick to take into that battle. I think given those facts that he did a good job in a lot of areas in putting a solid foundation under our football program."
"This is a great place, a tremendous place. We have tradition. We have history. We have a brand that is still meaningful. But we have a long way to go to get back to where we need to be. You can't put all of that on Coach, I don't care if his name is Vince Lombardi or Derek Dooley. We have an obligation as an administration to give our coaches the resources they need, the support they need, intrinsically and extrinsically to back to where we want to be. This will be a collective effort from a lot of people to have us take our rightful place in the Southeastern Conference and beyond."
"This is the ultimate challenge, which competitors embrace. This is the ultimate challenge, for a football coach to come into this league. If you're a competitor and you want to prove your worth, come into the Southeastern Conference. Come to the University of Tennessee. You'll get that opportunity."
So future coach of SMU, are you a competitor? Do you want a challenge? Do you want your name immortalized as the coach that led SMU to greatness? If so, this is your place, this is your opportunity, this is your time.
