A parents prayer

A parents prayer...that his son examplify sportsmanship....that he represents his school, family, community and himself with honor and demonstrates the greatest level of respect for the game he loves. That he plays with passion and emotion and does EVERYTHING he can to find a way to win....and at the end of the game he walks off the field injury free.

I know these boys, especially the seniors expected a better season...lets not give up on them and win or lose BE THERE to honor them as they are celebrated on their senior day. Thank you for accepting these boys and for your passion for the game. As a father far away from where his boy is playing, it gave me great comfort knowing my son was at a great school where his experience was measured by more then just the wins and loses.

Best post this year.
Thank you to your son for his sweat and pain on the field of play. I am sure your family is greatful for the education and support your son recieved over the past few years.
The Bus stop will be open after the game as we wrap up this season over a grilled steak and fellowship.
Remember it is a game and these young men do what they are coached to do.
Peace be with you always.
Go Mustangs

Thank you for your comments and please know that they have been heard by those of us in the area. Although I am distressed by the adults supposedly running the program, it is my responsibility as an alumnae who loves the Mustangs to be there on Saturday. Thank you for trusting SMU with your precious child.

Thanks for putting the season into proper perspective. Thanks for your son's hard work and hard play. And thanks to all the other seniors who played so hard for their careers at SMU.

They deserve a lot of credit for the success SMU football has had the last 4 years. We all have come a long way.

Go Zach. One of the silver linings of this season

I'll be there. Sad to see all of these players go. I can remember all the way back to the Hawaii Bowl season thinking how fun these players were as freshmen. Sad to see them go. Ten years from now, I will be telling my one or two friends who are into SMU football: "Remember how exciting, ZL, DJ3, Margus, Jagared, Taylor Reed, etc. were? Those were the good ole days."

Thanks for interrupting the whinefest long enough to share what's important - the team itself. These players have worked their tails off, and the seniors are assured of at least three bowls, maybe four. Thank you for sending Zach to SMU, and here's to similar success for Prescott ... and maybe brother #3 one day?

I'll be there from start to finish Saturday, cheering for the Mustangs, no matter what.

We will be there. These players have given us all lots of fun and excitement. It's about the kids and everyone needs to support them. Last year the turnout was very light for the senior recognition after the last game with their parents - hopefully more fans will take the few minutes to go down by the tunnel and show them some deserved appreciation.

Thank you for your post 42party. Though I am not an actual parent of any of the players, I have gotten to know several of them and have grown to love them as my own,so the negativity on this board has hurt me deeply. I will be there with my entire family on Saturday. I love these boys and win or lose they are among the best young men I have ever known. We may not be happy with the current leadership, but we owe it to these kids to show up and support them, especially the seniors on their special day of honor. Go Mustangs!

42sparty- I wish that all of our players had the same desire and work ethic that Zack has. If we did we would probably be undefeated. He is a son to be proud of and more importantly demonstrates the quality of parental guidance he received growing up. Congrats to you and your spouse as well as Zack for his achievements.

Great post! I was a senior on the '97 team and recall walking out on senior day to empty stands. However, something great happened that day (i know it was painful for smu). Point is...it can happen again for the smu seniors on Saturday. Good luck!

Were you a kicker? I was bored at work and did some Googling.
