Remembering that we'd spent twenty years in college football hell, the absolute cellar, what was your reasonable expectation after five years? I'm asking an honest question.

I honestly wanted SMU in a bowl game last season or this season. If we had made a bowl game last season, then I expected bowl appearances in years 4 and 5. 4 bowl games is better than expected, but that does not really mean he has over performed, simply that we climbed to an acceptable level sooner than expected and have plateaued. I am very happy to be bowling, but am very concerned that we are not improving.

Me too. Time to get to that next level.

Can't remember exactly what my expectations were but going to 4 straight bowl games and getting out of CUSA definitely exceeded them.

Yeah but we get out because of Dallas not because of JJ

To actually be competitive against the real teams. The game at tech in 2010 was okay. The tcu game in 2011 was good. But tired of the a&m and Baylor outcomes. That's what I really want. Being competitive against those teams.

I believe as Stallion has stated that the administrative changes had more to do with it than JJ.

Exactly, and. I'm worried tech at home is still going to be a beaten

Not to lose to teams like Rice and Tulane at this stage.
Not to be blown out by Texas A&M and Baylor.

I expected our head coach to give 110% effort in coaching, recruiting, marketing and selling the school, the program, etc. I expected steady progress toward building this program into one of the top 25 (or at least top 40) in the country. I expected to leave Tulane and Rice in the dust. I expected at least one conference championship.

He's done everything I had hoped for in five years, exceeded expectations by taking us from NCAA cellar dweller to an upper tier CUSA team. I did ultimately expect him to replicate the success he had at Hawaii, to get us to a BCS bowl, remembering of course that it didn't happen until his ninth season there.
I am very concerned about recruiting. It still bothers me he tried to bolt. I don't know what I'd do if I were AD. But he's done anything we could have remotely expected to this point.

An upper-tier CUSA team would not lose to Rice or Tulane.

sorry but we are just 6-6 with a win over SFA. Not really that exciting of a season. If we had been competitive against Baylor ATM UCF and Rice, maybe.

I agree with this. I did not expect to go to a bowl so soon, but I expected to be better than this by now.
