Cowlishaw is a consistent moron. Woe upon anyone who is incapable of forming an opinion without his ridiculous input.

Every poster on this board knows more about SMU football than he does.

Whatever. I agree with him, or at least it's going to take a lot more than a 6-6 season here to make me believe June's a problem.

nope..JJ is a major part of the problem..The other key component is that that many (not necessarily all) the big time givers {C of C} are happy with mediocrity.

Or they realize the uphill battle we have had to climb to get to the point where .500 is a major disappointment.

What is amazing is that Gary Patterson is the third highest paid coach int the big 12 behind Mack and bobo stoops!

Two interesting points from this article:

1) Were we in the Big 10/12, June would be the lowest paid (or among the lowest paid) HC. This is significant because I still consider the Big 10/12 to be our regional and traditional rivals for the most part. The bar on HC salaries has evidently moved significantly since June's monster $10M deal 5 years ago. For someone of June's experience and qualifications (not what you may think of him personally), $2M a year is evidently a bargain these days.

2) Between this article and the reaction I received from Dallasites and casual fans at my office upon returning from vacation and the Hawaii Bowl announcement, I think the very vocal June haters on this board are the only people who think we have a HC issue. The outside world is impressed with the Mustangs are are talking. We have relevance against.

Because those people don't follow our weak recruiting, or our non-offense, or how unusually bad CUSA was this year.

Ask them. They'll assume we have a top 10 offense with June. We have a bottom 25% offense.

I've also heard similar things, but I think this is more of a reflection of the outside world not really paying attention to SMU football. I can't tell you how many people have followed up their "oh yea, June Jones is the coach" comment with something about how great a high flying run-and-shoot offense is to watch.

Clearly, they aren't following things too closely.

1) June Jones is not a bargain at $2 M a year (there's guys out there making half that or less who recruit and run offenses better than June).

2) The people that think we have a HC issue are the ones that actually follow the program closely and know we're not doing what we need to do to get to the next level.

3) The stands and the standings say SMU football is still irrelevant.

This is what I have found to be true. In addition to the sewing circle and the Alan Peppard mentionables, my everyday orange blood, toad and Johnnybacker football fanatic friends all speak highly of June and are complimentary (by name) of Tom Mason, Derrick Odum and other staff members. Glad we made it to a bowl and glad the coaching staff will be receiving their bowl bonus check for the 4th year in a row.
