Make sure when the geldings leave they take Yosemite Sam with them. I cringe every time the networks show him doing rope tricks at a game.

It reminds me of the old third rate western & rodeo shows that use to tour the country.

Amen to all hese posts! It's so embarassing to see that guy twirling a rope! What on earth does that have to do with the SMU Mustangs? Get rid of the geldings the day JJ leaves!

Love the Mustang Band, but the reason that PonyFans love the band and Peruna and the rest of the traditions is because we see them at football games.

That guy is almost more embarrassing than the old decrepit gelding thats left. His mustache is cringe inducing.

I think we should get rid of the Vard as it really isn't a 'tradition'. Turner was just trying to relive his days at the Grove. We should dump it as we did the Old Miss like uniforms. It isn't tradition, its Old Miss!

OK. Sometimes trying something new isn't all that bad. And the Vard is an example.

And though I don't hang out around the Big Horsey, One wonders what all those small children playing at that end of the field think. Is that big Horsey with the guy and his rope something they don't see often and adds to their enjoyment? If so, I am not opposed to making a SMU game more enjoyable to a small kid. Cause one day they grew up and then can choice to attend a SMU game.

If a horse and a circus sideshow entertains the children while the adults watch a game, fine. I am for anything that increase attendance. Sell beer, start a lottery and give away two free tickets to Hawaii, give prizes to students who actually attend the game and stay for the fourth quarter... Make it a mandatory college credit to stay until the fourth quarter (chalk it up to a humanities course in self-improvement)...

Traditions don't stay either. Used to be we'd head to the Cotton Bowl to see the Mustangs take on conference mates, Baylor, UT, A&M, Arkansas, TT, Rice, and TCU. Now we are conference mates with Boise State, Tulane, ECU, Navy, Memphis, UConn (for now), Cincinnati, SDS, Temple and UH, I think? Not much tradition there. But hey, the money's possibly good.

I suggest the Ft. Worth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo, a petting zoo, Mesquite Rodeo... lots of other opportunities to find your inner cowboy. 1 down, 1 to go.
