At least their fans have a reasonable oppty to go. Tulsa to Memphis is probably less than 10th the cost of Dallas to Hawaii.. In addition to being played on a reasonable day.

EDIT:
Didn't matter to JJ in '09.

All costs are split equally by CUSA so it does not matter where you go.

86- I was talking about the cost to a family going to Memphis or to Hawaii. Not the teams etc. I was aware about the cost split with the conference.

We were not invited to the Liberty Bowl. And as far as I know we were only invited to one bowl. Blame the losses not the bowl.

mrydel- with all due respect. I believe that we could have gone to a different bowl had jj not been so insistent on going to Hawaii. Other than the championship game I suspect the other cusa bowls are pretty fluid as far as the selection of what teams go to them. JMHO.

If I am overseeing a group of 18 year old young men and have the choice of bowls that CUSA has other than the conference championship bowl, I pick Hawaii. The players want to go to Hawaii and as much as I would like to be the most important person in consideration, I have to let the players have first choice. Ask the seniors where they want to go. They have been to Hawaii once, Birmingham once, and even all the way to Dallas once. If I am on the team I am screaming for Hawaii. I am very happy this group of seniors will get to go to Hawaii.

What I did not like was what appeared to be the goal to get to Hawaii from the beginning. That was the impression given and that is wrong. The goal should be Memphis. But we did not get Memphis and I am glad now that the guys are Hawaii bound.

Let me refresh your memory: in '09, while in the driver's seat to win the West, JJ embarrassed SMU by telling The NYT, and anyone who would listen, that he wouldn't go to the Liberty Bowl if invited. "I'm locked in [to the Hawaii Bowl]," he told The Times, with 2 games left to play.

(As an aside, SMU then went out and lost to Marshall.)

Yes I know that. Now let me refresh your memory. Did we have that option this year?

No, and -- my mistake it wasn't clear -- I've been referring to '09 all along.

Plus, what makes you think the Liberty would ever invite SMU now, after '09?

Let's come up with a lot of complaints based on speculation, hypotheticals, and situations that will not be available after this year just so we can gripe. Look, Jones lost me with the ASU deal. But this year, and that is to what I was referring in response to redpony, a Liberty Bowl option does not exist, and unless things are revamped it will not be in the future either.

Jesus, you're still whining about which bowl we went to four years ago? It was the perfect bowl then. There was the June-goes-home angle, only game on TV, the players were over the moon about it, fans were hyped as hell about it, and those who could afford it went. We were all excited about Hawaii.

Tomorrow's Monday. I'm sure you have a way to blame JJ for that, too.

Get over your hate and move on.
