Even if it had been Harry's personal opinion and not an excerpt from an article, the better response would have started something like this:

"I disagree, and here's why I think SMU will win."

Followed by some facts and support for your own opinion explanaining why the poster was wrong, without calling him a cracker and telling him to go back to his hole. Then there wouldn't have been a need to apologize to anyone for proving this Internet + Anonymity Theorem.

I don't know what happened, but I do know the end result is classy.

1980 gets a D- in deductive reasoning. It's highly unlikely a "troll" would be a member for nearly 5 years and have almost 4,000 posts. A "troll" is more likely someone who has been a member for a little over a month and has 35 posts......

First the lawyers, then the doctors, and now the professors... I won't try and defend my situation except to say that I am a poor freshman who understands little about all those tiny horseshoes and how all of this works... Although, it does seem rather simple now. Does anyone have the Peruna bottle handy to help me through all of this trauma?

It's common decency - there was no need to totally flame for offering up a different opinion then the one you may have.
