Rick Hart was courteous to deny the rumors about the Mustang Band and the Hawaii trip in so far as it concerned resources. He explained that it was a logistical problem due to the scarcity of available seats on the airlines and a problem they were working to resolve.

I'm not as worked up as many on here about this issue, but I bet there's a lot of people who could be trimmed from the official party whose absence would have zero effect on the game. That would free up some seats.

Didn't SMU charter a private flight or two last time?

Hart and Turner, on the case! I think if it can be done then they will get it done. Still won't be happy unless they all get to go but it's nice that SOME get to go.

Does the whole football team get to go or just the "travel squad" go to bowl games?

Hold on a second..........scarcity of seats on planes for our band but they found seats for the team???? Hmmmmmm............I call BS.......thought we would be prepared for this bowl since they have known this was JJ's goal since the start of the season. SMU, get your heads out of your butts and send ALL of the band, cheerleaders & pom squad, etc. They usually are much more entertaining than the football team!

But I think the team is required to be there.

Team will likely be on a chartered 757 like last time

Just assuming, but I would guess that the team would be on an etops certified 737. This would reduce the cost of the charter. The team needs to be there for about a week. The band, it seems according to these reports, is flying commercial, so my guess is this is being done to save money on hotels by only having them there for a few nights.

i think we may have stumbled on what happened in New orleans. Clearly the plane was not big enough for the entire team - so we only brought the defense.

Rescind statement. Pretty sure an etops 737 can't make Hawaii and the band flew commercial in 2009.

They're fine, but without the football team, nobody is watching them.
