The Honolulu Groupon has Hawaii Bowl tickets on sale for the next week. They are end zone general admission, but if anyone is looking for cheap tickets you can't beat $9 a seat for a bowl game!

There will be about 10,000 in a 50,000 seat stadium. Kinda like Ford... you can sit anywhere.

great - the ticket prices for the game are the limiting factor for me attending.

Maybe if they go down to $5 you can catch a late flight out on Southwest or maybe take Amtrak... scenic views.

Southwest DOES start flying there next year...but that doesn't help us now. Airfares are sky high-off the chart. I'm having to leave out of Phoenix on Hawaiian Airlines. Hotels are high too. The lady that booked my hotel said it's so expensive because a lot of travelers are not going to Mexico for crime reasons and they are now heading to Hawaii!

Mexico only has "crime problems" in and around the border regions. The narcos have taken over the border cities like Monterrey. These border non beach tourist cities never competed with Hawaii or Yucatan (one of the safest places on the planet) so I am baffled by the misinformation.
a little sensationalist nonsense that needed to be corrected. Few people I know have stopped travelling to the safe areas of Mexico (including uber hip Cabo.. a place poor folk like me cannot afford). Hawaii becomes hip in cycles. Then fades. Has little to do with traffic to "Mexico".
The biggest detriment to Hawaii is location. Airfares are fairly high because its quite far away. The travel is also exhausting. Who the hell wants to travel to a beach all those time zones away? (unless the Ponies are in town). If u are going to go to the Pacific its best to get on another plane and head south to Tahiti or east to Fiji. Skip the islands and all the tourists completely. At little additional cost.

Travelocity shows a few fares around $1,200 (over even $1,100), but most of those require stops and/or longer stays. UA is showing 12/19-24 (late night) for $1,032, but it requires a stop in SFO on the way out and PHX of the way back.

Southwest is not starting flying there anytime soon, so forget about that one. You're best bet is to try what's known as a "hacker" fare. Book out of Waco or something that connects to Fresno on AA and then take Allegiant across. If it's too much work, Alaska has the best price going right now out of DFW for $1200. Or find a friend who works for an airline and non-rev

Southwest used to have a codeshare with ATA, which allowed one to take Southwest to, say, LAX, then take ATA to the islands. Of course, that ended when ATA went out of business, and it benefits none of us this year
