Next. I am in the car and may not be able to listen. By the tease it does not sound like he has positive things to say.

"What has SMU gotten itself into?

"What is the Big East anymore?"

"It's a big freaking mess"

Lol, talked about if the Big East dissolves that the remnant teams should be talking to the Sun Belt

Wow, pretty much all doom and gloom without really understanding the situation, kind of disappointed in Norm. If the Big East goes to hell, which it very well may, SMU and Houston would have a decent home in the MWC, or perhaps even a new Western conference. WTF is this Sun Belt crap?

I guess it's pretty much a requirement to have your own head far up your own as* before opening your mouth, especially in front of a mic. What have we gotten ourselves into? We got out of the 8th ranked conference and into the 6th ranked conference. It was 6th last year, it was 6th this year, it will be 6th next year. It also has more money and exposure than a weak-as* CUSA. If it dissolves, so what? We'll be in another conference that's ranked 6th with less money than the power conferences, and more than the pathetic TV deal CUSA has no.

Look this isn't rocket science. What are we supposed to do, sit in CUSA with our thumb up our as* going gee isn't this just swell!

No, that's what JJ's BEEN doing.
Should've been winning CUSA titles and kicking down the door to the Big 12 by now.
Big Least was wrong move. Its implosion was predictable.

BE is and remains our best move. Despite defections and media negotiations, remaining in CUSA was untenable, while the MWC would have mean little financially or in media visibility in bigger markets.

For better or worse, BE or NBE remains the best path forward at this time. Le't set aside our self-delusions and make lemonade. BTW, the Larry Brown move is helping in more ways than even we imagined. Our national brand is better and we offer more than a legacy of tradition in FB.

In summary, we need to do our talking on the field and fill the stands. Anything else is an echo chamber.

Christ, I don't need to listen to Norm to hear those opinions - I get them here.

Does he have any actual ideas?

Larry Brown has been so good for us that we are no longer talked about as a poor basketball addition to the Big East.

This is all knee-jerk reaction to the recent rumors about BBall schools looking at options.

A recent article I read on the subject stated they were not happy with the addition of Tulane. A negative on their RPI, and no mention of SMU in that regard.

I did manage to catch it. Norm just basically outlined the worse case scenario. sDSU and Boise leaving and the bball schools leaving. Tulane and Memphis suck as fball schools etc.

He basically said he doesn't know what SMU should do. Just more BE bashing. I thought he might have something more enlightening than that. It is real easy to bash the BE, but come on it is better than what we are in.

He did say we are doing what we have to given the circumstances. You gotta figure we are talking, but will hold course till the next shoe drops.

His final suggestion that what's left of the Big East should combine with the Sun Belt tells you Norm really doesn't know what he's talking about. If you're going to throw out a proposal like that, at least say C-USA, or even MWC. He's just slinging headlines for shock value.

However, we should all be appreciative to Norm for at least talking about SMU and its conference. No one else does. And even if the bigger drive-time radio guys talk about SMU and the Big East, they really DO just read the headlines and know nothing.

The basketball-only schools don't get it. Basketball doesn't bring the big money. It's a drop in the bucket compared to what football can bring in. Of course, when you don't have football, that drop looks pretty big.

It's pretty clear that basketball got Memphis (great hoops) and football got Tulane (big TV market) out of this whole deal.
