Big 12 or bust ...

If anyone thinks the Big 12 will stand pat at ten teams ...

It's time for SMU to get its act together behind new leadership. It's time for Gerald Turner to treat athletics like he treats everything else on campus: Nothing less than world class is acceptable. It's time to get George Bush involved and these big-money people off their asses to start campaigning.

It's time to cut bait with June Jones and bring in a dynamic coach who will embrace SMU and its possibilities -- as opposed to an emotionally distant, overpaid coach relying on a system that is long outdated. We flat out STUNK on offense this season. Simply AWFUL.

Let's be honest, June's a goner after next season. With one year left on his deal after the 2013 season -- which could be a 2- or 3-win nightmare -- they will either have to extend him or cut him loose. Get ahead of the curve. Show him the door on Dec. 26.

Chad Morris has somehow, inexplicably, slipped through the cracks with all of the SEC openings. He is primed for a head coaching gig in the state of Texas. He makes $1.3M at Clemson, well within our budget.

C'mon, folks, did anyone think West Virginia was going to "save" the Big 12? They will need to add schools and it will be tough for them to raid the ACC -- or any other conference -- at this point.

If Turner and his band of merry billionaires are not prepared to make this world class, we should wrap things up and play Division III ball. Let's go, folks. Let's go. Now. Today. Big 12 or bust.

Nobody is looking for a regional footprint. Big XII does not need another Texas school.

We probably need a 10 or 11 win season to get their attention.

Nah, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and the others don't want to guarantee a game in DFW every year. Why would they want that? Tech and Baylor already give up home games just to play at Jerry World.

Does nothing for national TV appeal. We bring nothing that the conference doesn't already have to the table.

Obviously Big 12 or PAC are the fantasy destinations. But how do we get there? It seems we are passive riders in all this. I personally want the PAC over the B12...but who cares what I want?

Meanwhile it's radio silence from Turner and Hart...are we being proactive? Does our administation recognize how close we are to the cliff or is a salvaged BEast their fantasy destination?

We all sense where this is headed...slow motion trainwreck...but then I hear Andy Kaufman singing the theme to "Mighty Mouse...here he comes to save the day"...and it's all good. Right?

You mean the PAC-12 right? The Big XII isn't going to sniff us even if we magically start becoming successful in football.

Very good points. Let me assure you that A.D. Rick Hart is out in front of all this. He has been proactive in developing a plan to address the shortcomings of the SMU football program, an has been relentless getting his message out to the media. I have provided links to each and every one of his statements, interviews, and press conferences here:

The Big 12 did not want TCU but the could not deny them because they went to two straight bcs games. We go to two bcs games and win the rose bowl and we will wind up in the Big 12 because the they would rather take us then see us go to the sec or PAC 12. Both of whom would be interested if we went to two straight bcs games. But the reality is, we can't win a conference title in the worst conference in college football so it ain't gonna happen

Deloss Dodds will never let UH or SMU into the Big XII if he doesn't have to. Hell, he didn't even want to add TCU, but if he didn't they would have been a travel partner to A&M in the SEC. Like the others said, you have to make it virtually impossible for them to ignore you. Like last year for example, both UH and SMU had decent records (10-0 and 7-3 respectively) and when the Big East was still really attractive. Both schools got national attention with the BE move along with college gameday and even the casual fan was asking why they weren't in the big 12. Dodds had to give an answer about already having the markets when Big 12 expansion was being discussed before adding TCU and WVU.

Keep getting national attention like that and everything else will take care of itself.

even if we went undefeated and went to a bcs game, we still wouldn't stand a chance to get into big 12 or any other big conference for that matter

It's time we stop fearing big bad DeLoss. A couple more years like 2012 and he'll be toast like Mack.
