To the June is our Saviour Crowd:
The Tulsa Hurricanes have won 8+ REGULAR Season games 8 times since 2003-a feat June Jones has yet to accomplish at SMU. That's hard to believe but it also points out its not unrealistic for a higher paid coach, at a better funded program, with better facilities, at a better school, in a better location, with larger alumni, greater tradition in a National recruiting goldmine in a conference like CUSA to expect greater results.

Last time I checked you were promoting a high school coach from Southlake for SMU! Wasn't he hired and fired by NTSU? Your credibility drooled down your leg on that one.

I have to admit, stallion is right on this one, if a school as small as tulsa, in the
middle of nowhere, and always hires no name coaches can consistantly win
and we can't then something is wrong with this picture.

I've been saying this for years. Tulsa has done a great job with what they have. Their hoops program stalled but was very respectable for a long time..

Apples to Oranges comparison as Tulsa has played in a much tougher conference.
Also, if you look at their OOC schedule over the past 10 years, you will see multiple games against OU, OK St and Arkansas, 4 against Boise St and BYU when those teams had a combined 48-5 record, as well as B10 and ND opponents, in other words, just as challenging as ours.

I was one of the last to abandon ship, and that was at least two months ago.

I suspect the difference is that Tulsa wanted to improve their programs and made a consistent effort to do so. We just have an admin that is happy to be mediocre and doesn't have the desire to constantly improve our athletic programs.

You suspect huh? Really SMU has provided this Coaching Staff with everything and every advantage over Tulsa and more. There is no evidence of your suspicion and I'd love to hear how Tulsa has any advantage over SMU since June Jones got here

Yeah...Turner and SMU have done plenty to get us back...not perfect...but not bad. The Death Penalty is a crutch now...it's not even relevant to our current situation. Problem now is effort elsewhere.

Stallion- where did I say they had an advantage over us? I also specifically said programs. Not just fball but bball, wbball, soccer-both men and womens, vball, etc. In bball we failed miserably for over 5 yrs while doh was here and did nothing to change the situation. Same with jj now. We struggle to beat any team with a winning record. Not just this yr but the last several and it doesn't look like there is any effort to improve that situation before the end of next year, if then..

The problems are clear to anyone who takes the time to examine the situation. Doherty wasn't a good coach. He could recruit, but failed at coaching, just like at prior stops. Jones is a decent enough albeit stubborn coach. He just isn't interested in recruiting or staffing with recruiters...... just like at prior stops.
Mex may be right about keeping players in school, but we have been recruiting good players to even worry about failing.
