"While conference membership can change, SMU's reasons for joining the BIG EAST remain the same -- to maximize exposure for the University and its athletic program and to compete against some of the nation's best universities. SMU is a nationally prominent, tradition-rich university located in the vibrant city of Dallas. We are committed to excellence both in the classroom and on the fields of play. We will compete for championships. We look forward to joining a strong league on July 1 and playing our inaugural BIG EAST season in all sports beginning next fall." - SMU President R. Gerald Turner

CUSA should have taken the football teams left in the Big East, but not the new teams that will be in the CUSA.

Nowhere in that statement did Turner say SMU is committed to the Big East.

Maybe not for keeps, but it's VERY clear we're committed to next season.

Do they not get that they're back in the Sunbelt and we're back in CUSA (2.0)? They're still as irrelevant as ever ... just in a new shinny package of irrelevance. They're "green" alright, green with envy. The great divide is coming and SMU has a good shot at making the cut; they have zero chance.
They have more irrelevant bowl tie-ins!
