As Big East crumbles, race begins to be power conference No. 6
"This is not even a college football thing. What, you forgot? The same entity that created the Big East in 1979 has killed it 33 years later. Cable TV. "

The word power shouldn't be associated with the number 6 conference.

Dodd is a freaking moron - this article contains zero facts and the writing is so terrible that I cannot even understand what he is trying to say in some portions:
"There are few TV draws in the Group of Five. CBSSports.com once described a core of Air Force, Boise, SMU and Houston -- in a Big East model that spanned four time zones. One conference commissioner said he preferred his "autonomy."
Honestly, wtf does that paragraph even mean?

Obviouly doesn't have to answer to an editor or the editor is as bad as he is.

As bad as this is, it may be a great holding pattern for a few years. Sooner or later you may end up with some sort of crazy Premier League format, where the bottom two teams in each of the Big 4 (I am assuming the ACC will be the next casualty) move down while the top 8 from the League 5 moves up every several years. That way, the Baylors, Iowa States, Washington States, Indianas of the world need to step it up, or be send down to League 5.

It would be impossible to recruit in the bottom league. In the pros you can just pay a lot of money if you can find it.

Bottom 5 conferences need to allow for pay-for-play. Break from NCAA and do that. Only way to compete.

If they do that, the Power 5 will soon follow suit, and the bottom 5 will only hurt themselves even more in the long run.

I had the same thought. I read it standing in line at the grocery and just assumed I was distracted, but it still doesn't make sense now that I can focus.

The tv sponsors might not want to associate with the stigma of paying players, therefore can give them a window to build up their programs since we have no attachments.
