Big East Ready To Respond

I kind of like this-even for Basketball. In Football we would go West which unfortunately is inevitable but in BB they keep the Big East at 10 meaning its easier to schedule all teams. It won't look as good if UCONN or Cincy leave but it would be a competitive national conference with Eastern basketball exposure-:

UCONN
Cincy
Memphis
Temple
Houston
SMU
UCF
USF
Tulane
East Carolina
------------
UMASS (possible)

The 'plan' makes sense, but is contingent on ensuring UConn and Cincinnati remain committed to the new league for more than a few years. Western FB needs a good team. Can anyone imagine a scenario were BYU (preferred) wants in?

Also, if we take UMass for BB to support UConn and BB brand, why not invite Gonzaga, Creighton or Butler for All sports, except FB? You could also spilt SW Ohio Catholics, Dayton and Xaiver, with one going to our League and one going to the Catholic 7, who also gets St. Louis, another Catholic school.

Sounds good. All that is needed is a catchy new name for the Conference. How about:

--Conference of the Magnificant 14

--BCC: Bi-Coastal Conference

--CDC: Continental Divide Conference

--Expendables Conference

--Big East-n-West Conference

--New Age Conference

--President's Choice Conference

--Airport Circadian Conference

Any other ideas ?

Adding Gonzaga and UMass would help with basketball.

I don't think we want to add the basketball only or football only schools. That is what got the Big East in trouble in the first place. Focus on all sports members and the league will see an uptick.

Instead we should make agreements with Catholic 7, Big West, and Wcc conferences to strengthen rpi

They'll keep the big east name just to [deleted] of the basketball school. I say sell the name though to them for a nice sum to give us a bonus (money since no tv yet)

Stallion's proposal may be about the best we can hope for, but how many conference opponents will make for sellouts at Ford? And with a diminished BB schedule what are the chances of an earlier deparure by Coach Brown?

I have to wonder how long the CoC or their successors would continue to fund a program based on such a conference. There are SMU alumns with deep pockets, yes, but I wonder if the next group has the interest in football or hoops or sports generally as shown by the group that made it possible to bring JJ and LB to the Hilltop.

The pound of flesh that the BE departing teams may have to pay is to play the remaining teams at their home courts once each for the next three years including the 2011 additional all sports teams in order to avoid exit fees. That would ensure that USF, UConn and Cincy get two marquee games to televise a year as well as Temple, SMU, UCF, and UH. That would be very fair in my opinion and would raise the value of the BE remnant TV contract. I wouldn't mind having DePaul, Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova, Providence, Seton Hall and St. Johns appear at Moody at all.

There's no reason we can't make the Western schools full members too and have a divisional basketball alignment. If it strengthens the conference and keeps SDSU and Boise St. committed, then do it. I wouldn't mind being being in a basketball division with SDSU, BYU, etc. and only playing UConn every other year, if that keeps the conference together.

Aresco’s league might come up with a hybrid name such as Conference America, which more truly captures the wide geographical and television footprint it wants to create.
WOW!

So Original and Catchy!

and they leave room for Canada and all Latin America as well.

GRIEF! What a Cluster Course!

BTW

IT'S GREAT TO BE A TROJAN!

This would be a good holding pattern conference until the ACC explodes. After that, you'll have NCS, VT, U, UVA, WF, Duke, BC, Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville. That would be 10 there and 9 in our little conference. A merger could create something like this:
Football worth watching division
VT
U,
BC
Pitt
ECU
SMU
USF
UCF
UH
Cincy

Hoops galore Division
NCS
Duke
WF
UVA
Syr.
UConn
Tulane
Louisville
Memphis

Championship alternates between AA (Dal/Mia), Greensboro, and MSG. I put Tulane in the hoops galore division because I had to put them somewhere. And Duke, WF, Tulane, Syracuse belong together.

How long until this arrangement ends?

What happens when UConn, Cincy, and another find a new home?
