12-21-2012 - Time Is On Our Side

Hey Mayans, what's up?
Despite our long history wandering the desert after escaping from DP a generation ago and the most recent events linked to the major realignments of the college athletic conference, the shortest day of the year (or, alternatively, our final day traveling on planet earth ;-D ), SMU is doing better than we could have imagined a half dozen years ago. And, time is on our side ....
While we might lament the desertions from the BE or raiding by other conference (thanks ACC for starting the ball rolling by snatching Miami, BC and VT), our path back to the future, while not clear or assured, is there for loyal Mustangs.
First, we are not owe anything by anybody. Any demands for a better conference or circumstance, such as the Big XII, ACC or PAC 12, have not been earned - yet. With our four consecutive bowls, the hiring of Larry Brown, the acceptance by the BE, our valued positon located in Dallas and the State of Texas and a rich football tradition, SMU can at least appreciate that progress, abiet slow and late, has occurred.
However, our future is and should be under our own control and not some distant conference or media types. As we compete and put more students and fans into Ford, SMU will earn its rightful place. Our brand is recognized and there are true FB fans that are ready to re-embrace our Mustangs and our running logo.
Reading posts that inflate our value and desires simply increases our frustration, since we are all impatient with speed of our recovery and events that appear to be out of our control.
During the Holidays, I offer best wishes to all Ponyfans for a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a fantastic year for our Mustangs, starting in Honolulu on December 24th. Pony Up!
I leave you with the Serenity Prayer:
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
