Breaking: MWC restructures tv deal. Could we be MWC-bound?

"The Mountain West has reached an agreement to restructure its television deal with CBS, multiple conference sources told CBSSports.com. The deal could allow the conference to become the dominant non-BCS league going forward in the playoff era.

That would put the future of the Big East football schools as a conference in further question and force Big East lynchpin Boise State to make almost an immediate choice on its conference future."

We might be heading to the MWC if Boise bails, which reports seem to indicate they will. I know the university seems to like to look eastward, but sticking with Boise, SDSU, Houston, and possibly BYU in the MWC would be good for our program. Better than sticking with CUSA 3.0 as soon as Cincy and UConn bail tomorrow.

Even if the Mountain West expands, it would still be a feeding ground for the PAC12 and BIGXII if they want to feast.

wouldn't SMU want to be part of that group in hopes we would earn the invite?

Ugh what is Aresco doing... I bet the mwc TV deal will just go from 1 mil to two mil for the whole conference... ESPN said Boise is staying on track though

Lets let the dust settle on B10, SEC expansion. There will be plenty of good eastern teams we may want to partner with.

Btw, Stallion's description of this being a Ponzi scheme is ringing truer and truer.

Since the group hasn't been defined no one can answer that. I doubt a western non-AQ league would be significantly better than an eastern non-AQ league. SMU should be able to improve their profile in either.

A feeding ground that only has 2 maybe 3 members strong enough to warrant being taken by either league so 11/14 teams would be pretty stable members.

The CBS deal for the MWC is not worth what has been touted. The MWC is not where Boise State or any other ambitious program wants to land. This is all BS from CBS. And, playing right into the hands of ESPN. They want to break the Big East and this helps.

I wager Boise will not go rejoin the MWC. The CBS deal does not give them enough certainty to reject the Big East, yet. Aresco, though, needs to get a deal done quickly to provide Boise and others with more certainty.

Go Mustangs!

I imagine its a timing issue with Aresco, wait too soon and he might miss bigger tv opportunity or entice another team like BYU to join before making set agreement whereas waits to late and everyone will just bail. I'm not sure what time is right but I'm guessing that's what he's doing. He should have just taken a tv deal earlier if he could when we had basketball and Louisville but who knows if that would be enough to hold it together wheres now he mainly has teams that know that are stuck and they will accept anything

bottom line is that the Big East leftovers and MWC have collectively the most appealing schools left on the outside looking in at the Power 5 and a combination of schools from those 2 conferences that runs coast to coast might have the stongest appeal to the networks.

My instinct is to give Aresco the benefit of the doubt. He walked into a hail storm, especially after the Big10 surprised most when they grabbed Maryland and Rutgers to restart the realignment once again. Louisville's move to the ACC was then a no-brainer, since we would have done the same.

If I am Arseco, I would be working overtime to salvage the FB members and do anything to take BYU, which would ensure that BSU remains committed. This locks in SDSU and keeps the gang together, in order to finalize the TV deal. If BSU unhitches themselves, then you can expect them to find a new home with BYU and San Diego State back in the MWC (if a this conference can renegotiate with CBS) or from a new league with CSU, NM and Air Force, along with Fresno.

As I see it, we are not in a position initiate the next move. However, with the Cougars, we have Texas spots for either BE or son-of-MWC. The teams that are most concerned may be USF and UCF, since UConn and Cincinnati are the logicaly options for ACC, who has their own challenges to hold off BigXII, Big Ten and SEC.

They're trying to get out asap, and they might be able to negotiate that.

I'm certainly pro MWC over what the Big East has become since the Tulane addition and the Louisville & Rutgers departure. Boise & SDSU should definitely return to the MWC. The BE no longer has anything to offer them. SMU & Houston however can make a go of it in either conference. The BE certainly has something to offer you guys and the Boiseless BE is roughly equal to the MWC. Then its just a matter of personal preference. Would you rather play UCF football or Fresno football? Do you prefer Temple basketball or UNLV basketball?
